Description
Designs from my project, "Iron Hands McGee". These menacing robotic creatures are known throughout the worldas "Golems". Giant guardian machines, who will attack anyone who comes near the locations of where they protect
their treasures.
A reoccurring menace, these robots will give Abbey and the gang trouble whenever they show up.

Holy cow these are awesome! They almost give me a Megaman Legends vibe, but they have a life all of their own. Are you currently working on this or can I view Iron Hands McGee somewhere?

Thanks! I am actually a fan of the series!
Iron Hands McGee is actually going through a "reboot"
at the moment. If you want, you can view the original
comic here (though be advised the story was never finished):
www.lowfiveproductions.com/comβ¦
My reason for rebooting the series is mainly because I was not
happy with the original concept. Much of the story and characterization
was not very well planned out, coming off as sloppy. As of now, I am
spending my time by rewriting the comic, creating new characters and
concepts.
The end result will be a completely new story, which I shall continue to update on
its progress!

That's cool. I really like the design of Abbey and those enormous mech arms! I hope that the reboot goes well and would love to see it. I've got my own idea for an action adventure story, but I need to sort through all of my thoughts on that.

Looks dope! I really like the way you simplified the mechanical elements of the design!Β

Thanks! I am considering some more designs, the tricky part with them is
despite being "ancient" they are more advanced than they appear. So I always
try to think of ways to make them look very advanced, yet old at the same time.
Glad to hear you dig it friend! ^^

Well, I think you succeeded if that's what you're going for. But if you want some reference, perhaps look at the "Lanayru Mining Facility" from Zelda: Skyward Sword. If you haven't played the game, it's essentially an old technologically advanced civilization, that is in ruins during modern times. Zelda games in general tend to like technologically advanced, yet ancient themes for many of their dungeons. Also, the movie Castle in the Sky has a similar premise.Β
Still, it seems like you managed to get what you were going for, if you ask me!

Thanks for the advice! I did take some refrence from castle in the sky but I could use more reference. Also, I've played Skyward Sword but I never evem considered the idea to think about Lanaryu before! I loved the designs!
Awesome advice friend! ^^

Haha I never noticed that until now!
The "head" Golem was inspired by a lot of Aztec/Egyption designs, but
I feel a Chameleon themed Golem would be very interesting!

Very cool! What sort of powers does the top left one have, out of curiosity? I like the variety among them, and that they're visually consistent with the other mechanical elements in the story while being distinctly their own thing.

Thanks!
The big guy on top is kind of like a "bezerker" you could say, his job is to just crush and smash whatever comes his way.
I am glad to hear you think this too, the hardest part about the Golem designs is that they have to try and be distinct
from the technology/machines that is used more commonly in the "Iron Hands" world.
The idea is that they are highly advanced machines, yet ancient at the same time.

Neat, and what about the floating one next to him? Seems like more of an energy-user from first appearances.
I get what you're saying, it's tough to balance different styles when you also want diverse and memorable appearances for characters throughout a series. I had a lot of freedom writing a series about a world of sentient machines, but I also had to take into consideration the number of times I heard "Who's that one again?" while watching Transformers with friends and family over the years. Gotta make them all really visually different from each other or put emphasis on one special feature so it's easier to follow.
I think the ancient/advanced look is pretty discernible, and plot-wise it should be obvious by their actions too.

Thanks! The floating one is basically a lookout/sentry unit. The energy idea is totally something I can look into!
I agree too, the other tricky part is how to make theae machines powerful in an advanced sort of way, yet their buggest flaw is how archiac they have become.
Thanks for your input friend, your comments really help!

Ah cool! If you ever need a hand with ideas, feel free to shoot me a message. We're both working in the same sort of genre, so it's a pretty similar wavelength.Β
Well, in the same way that a medieval axe could still lop your head off! I think you should base your thinking with them around traditional ideas of what is insurmountable- an opponent too big to knock down, a shield too hard to break, an enemy too fast to hit... doesn't matter how old they are, they're still a threat. Instead of relying on technological powers, their strength may lie in a primal and physical power.
No trouble pal! Glad to be of service.
