Description SLUDGE once known as Vinnie Thorpe.
Vinnie was the night shift janitor at VanDrakeChemicalCorp...let's just say one thing lead to another, and now Vinnie's a thousand pound slime monster witha taste for revenge. Guess who he blames? That's right, our hero- Starshield.

I wanted to nail down the facial similarities to Sludge both pre and post accident. Too many times in the "guy turns into a monster" stories, the monster ends up looking NOTHING like the guy. So I wanted to make sure that the basic face shape (the sloping scallop) was present in both versions of the character.
I realize how simple and been-done-to-death that monsters are, but I love the classics, and I still think I can do something new with this character.

Great expressions - and I love the colour choices you've made. Can totally imagine that thing looming out of the shadows at our hero. Groovy.

Heh heh heh.... muscled janitor Bet the ladies working at that chemplant would consider themselves lucky having a cute guy like that cleaning up after them of course, before he became the sludge

Cool character design would be fun to see what he can do

Hopefully he comes across a little scuzzier than attractive.
He's one of those guys that always gets a raw deal.

nope, sorry, more attractive than scuzzy. You need to give him a beer-belly for that.

Do you plan on publishing this as a comic, or a webcomic, whatnot?

yeah (someday) He's a villian in (what will one day be called) Every Major City.
It'll hopefully be an ongoing title after GoldenAge comes out.

perfect world?
IMAGE COMICS would be a total dream come true.
But if they didn't want it? Really, as long as it got good distribution, it wouldn't really matter to me.

Cool, very cool.
I'm personally, with my idea, looking at the more independant labels, maybe even Oni Press, who only do b&w comics.

What is it about freckles and mo's? I'm quite partial to both myself sometimes.

Anything to make a character look a little different I guess.

"mo's?" is that some sorta fancy UK slang that I don't know about?

ape drape...hockey hair...
Dig them mirrored shades too- booyah!

Not being from the UK I wouldn't know mate.

i know, but a random "territory slang" comment isn't as funny if it's ACTUALLY where the person is from.
"Aussie slang" would be alright, but it'd be accurate. Seemingly uneducated comebacks are much funnier.

Yeah, if I was a supervillain I'd be something gross and sludgy like that. Like, Plunger Girl or something. Yeah.

Mmmm nice. I wonder if he'll grow a sludge beard though.... *waggles brows*

I think there is something to be said for the classics. Getting out there and doing something different is (usually) great! However, if you do it with the knowledge and intent of being classic.... that's cool. I think if you were to do this and say.. "look, I'm so cool and original" than... it'd lose it's classic credibility.

I really like the janitor thing.... I 'm loving the soggy mop.

My question is how, in his mind, does he blame your hero?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

mattcrap In reply to annora [2006-09-15 00:56:15 +0000 UTC]

It's one of those "in the path of the battle" type accidents, that causes Sludge's transformation.
Starshield is the hero in that equation....the hero ALWAYS gets blamed.

annora In reply to mattcrap [2006-09-15 02:59:42 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm... not always.

Lex Luthor gets blamed for quite a bit of what happens to people.... ie: job lay offs etc.... in fact he's been the target a couple times....

I must admit it's rare though... usually people are dumb and blame the only one who gives a crap in life.... you don't have to be a super hero to experience that!
