WOW that's amazing!Β I can tell a lot of work went into this and boy hasΒ it come out spectacular! I only draw withΒ pencils myself at the moment but I want to get into digital paintings cause they look so cool! so on that note, can I ask what program along withΒ the tablet you use cause im still clueless for the one I want to buy. thanks!

Hey, Thanks I love pencils as well, I often do my lineart with them before scanning
. I'm no expert, but I'd love to help as much as I can, so here goes: In terms of programs, especially if you're just starting out with digital painting I'd recommend Paint Tool Sai
It's lightweight, and easy to use. I painted this one on Photoshop, but some paintings I jump between the programs. Photoshop can be pretty intimidating with all the features haha, whereas sai is really simple and easy in comparison, way easier to get your head around. Although I guess that's personal preference, I think you can pick up Photoshop CS2 for free off adobe (it's a really old version, but free is free)
Tablet wise, I've only ever used Wacom brand ones, but they seem to be the industry standard, you can probably pick up a medium size bamboo fairly cheaply, and they're fantastic. If you wanna fork out a bit of extra cash, an Intuos series is the next step up, which is what I used to use, which was fantastic, the only reason I stopped was because I upgraded. I'd recommend medium sized ones, as I used to have a large intuos 3, and it was TOO big haha, but it comes down to personal preference which size you'd like, but I think most people use the medium. I currently use a Cintiq 24HD, which I bought myself as a graduation present, and it's amazing, but it was really pricey so I wouldnt recommend buying one straight away until you know for sure that you love digital painting enough to warrant the price tag Β
Hope that helps, i'd be happy to answer any more questions if you have any (and if I can, with my limited knowledge haha)

Wow thanks, that's a much better answer than I thought I'd get, and helpful too! I've done a lot of photoshopping before and I use cs5 so there's no problem there, I've just never painted with Photoshop so that'll be a challenge. Ive heard of Wacom before so I'll definitely check them out along with that Intous 3 your talking about so thanks! And for their picture was it completely on Photoshop or did you draw the lines and scan it like you said?

mattcrossley In reply to RomDawg [2014-06-27 09:24:58 +0000 UTC]
No worries . If you're comfortable with photoshop you should be sweet, I think theres a few tutorials around on youtube to help get your head around the brush settings (tbh, I need to rewatch some of these, I still get lost haha). Intuos is a series of Wacom tablets also, its kinda like their professional range, where Bamboo is their casual/entry range (but more or less just as good).
This picture specifically I drew digitally, because a Cintiq is a draw-on-screen tablet its much closer to drawing with traditional media, but I used to have heaps of trouble sketching onto traditional tablets, but I have friends who can draw on them like its no big deal, so don't let me put you off them haha. It was pretty much entirely drawn in photoshop, though if memory serves I think I did my initial sketching in Sai

x3 it's not a particular reference to anything, but it certainly looks like the colossal could be extremely angry about his cookies being stolen. Sad attempt at humor.Β

hahaha, I chuckled at it, but I thought it might have been an internet meme or something that I didnt know xD I'd probably be that mad if someone stole my cookies, unless they were raisin cookies, then they can straight up have them.

I see it perfect, and if you learned more you'll be way perfect
Yes it is, I hope it's at 2014 also, I can't wait to see some scene in manga to animated :c

mattcrossley In reply to Beautyh [2014-03-12 08:47:06 +0000 UTC]
Some of the stuff in the manga will be great! I'm currently up to date but I don't want to post anything publicly as I would hate for anyone to have some of the plot twists ruined for them. Is that a different OVA to the one that was released a few weeks back about what Levi's group was up to while the colossal titan was busting up some walls for a second time?

I haven't read all the manga yet, just some chapters that include the most exiting fights there, I better stop myself and wait for the series to be aired c':
Nah it's a new one about 104th training corps, As I get it, it's about eren and his friend back then when they was still training, you can read it here www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/β¦

I have to say it's been a while since I checked out any artwork of yours, but right now it seems just crazy how much you've improved.
The dynamics of this drawing are stunning, as is the Titan's expression. Shading and colouring turned out really good as well, and while I can still recognize your good old style I still find it amazing how much you've grown as an artist.
Keep up the awesomeness!
I hope you've been well.

Thank you so much, this comment has just completely made my day
Β It's been a while! I've been great, I graduated from Uni and have a full time job managing a print store now
Not quite as illustrative as I'd like, but I'm still drawing in my own time so one day I can do that for a living
. How have you been? Are you still studying psychology? (If memory serves haha, if I've got that completely wrong im sorry xD)
Glad to know you're still around these parts too, I'll have to swing by your gallery (im terrible at keeping up to date on my deviations messages)

LadyNoiraile In reply to mattcrossley [2014-03-10 21:46:38 +0000 UTC]
Great to hear you're doing well!
And you're all grown up, huh? How does it feel to be part of the workforce?
I've been great as well, thanks for asking. And Psychology is absolutely correct, hehe... yes, I'm still studying, almost finished with my Bachelor actually. However, this semester I kind of have a lot of spare time since some courses are only offered during summer term, so I ended up taking a lot of classes from here and there... so I'm currently getting an introduction to Gender Studies, the basics of Sociology, learning about different churches approaches on sexuality, taking some Philosophy classes and a nude drawing course. It's quite a multifaceted semester!
Also, thanks for the nice comments you left me, they're very much appreciated!
I'm also quite familiar with not keeping up on deviations messages, so I surely don't mind! (You probably noticed how long it took me to leave you a comment...) On the contrary, I'm even happier if I do get a comment even once in a while.

Just looked up some interviews, there were some rumours there wasnt enough funding as the anime was one of the first animation studios projects, but it sounds like season 2 is a go, since its so popular. We can hope!
