Description
Aside from super-powered primates and the occasional video game character, I also enjoy drawing big scary (but strangely lovable) monsters, and for some time now I've been working on a story about a small tribe of orcs on a quest not to get killed by marauding human beings. (It's basically my attempt to create an antidote to Lord of the Rings.) The green fellow seen here is one of the orcs in question, who goes by the name of Ogrokh, and the blue minotaur bloke with whom he's colliding is Raijin, a character created by a magnificent Japanese artist known as Kazuma.Essentially, what we have here is a cultural misunderstanding – Ogrokh used to be a professional wrestler, and he hasn't quite grasped the subtle differences between orcish pro wrestling and sumo...
This picture was drawn a few years ago with a pen and my trusty coloured pencils, and has been on display over at Crazy Lizard Studios for quite a while. However! This is a brand new version with a digitally remastered floor, designed to look less garish for the pleasure of your eyeballs. Enjoy.

You're the only guy I kow that makes sumo wrestling look interesting. Great pic. I love the expression on the Raijin's face.

Being an incredibly finicky geeky perfectionist helps, but equally important is The White Pencil, the Blending Tool of Excellence. Entirely by chance I found that by applying white to areas of lightness in coloured pencil drawings, the highlights look a lot smoother than if you rely purely on the whiteness of the paper underneath; and it can even help when you're blending dark colours together, because for some reason a light application of white pencil makes the darker hues mix more easily. All hail The White Pencil!

I used to use white all the time for blending, the only thing I don't like is that it makes the image look "chalky" with that slight haze over it. Blending pencils don't seem to do as well though Any other suggestions at all? You use it SO well though!!!

You really do have a fantastic style to your art. And to be entirely honest, your orcs are probably the only ones I find at all appealing in every way.
Namely though, I love their faces, and the finned ears, just really...cute. Hope that doesn't bug ya too much for me to say.
Great expression on the bull though, perfectly captures the "HOOMPH!"

Wow, i love the expressions on Raijin and Ogrokh XD, Ogrokh is one of my favorites characters that you have at the Crazy Lizard Studios website. Raijin is a Kazuma creation, yeah! he is one of awesome artists. That's Great Matt. Greetings!

Cheers! And yes, Kazuma is a fantastically excellent arty chap. We did an art trade together as a kind of follow-up to this pic (my half of which shall be uploaded later), and we did talk about coming up with some more pics featuring these two, so there's always the possibility of further orc-and-minotaur-related wrasslin'...
