Description
Isn't tht Hellcat with a dye job?
Actually, this costume was initially worn by the dark haired Greer Nelson, a young widow exploring the potentials all women possess. You may know Greer as Tigra, but she first appeared in Claws of the Cat, a series from the 70s. It was an idea ahead of it's time, an unabashedly feminist comic written and drawn by a team of women. Greer was treated with what was effectively a variant of the super soldier serium that also boosted her empathy and intellect.
Sadly, the series didn't get enough of a push from male Marvel staffers and was cancelled after four issues. She was revived as Tigra, which got off to a good start, but the character was not always treated well. It hurt to see Greer playing sex kitten for a string of male heroes, becoming less rational and less competent over time, and repudiating her earlier identity as a "women's libber." I like to remember the character as she was originally intended, an brave and heroic woman who didn't need to be defined by the men in her story.
