Description
Patsy Walker was started out as a teen adventurer, sort of Marvel's answer to the Archie gang. She eventually reappeared in Marvel Comics as a supporting character in the adventures of Hank McCoy, aka the Beast, shortly after he became the blue, furry version he is best known for. she later reappeared in the Avengers where she discovered the discarded costume of the Cat (Greer Nelson). Greer wasn't using it any longer as she had been transformed into Tigra, so Patsy tried it on. She gained all the powers Greer had as the Cat and became Hellcat, a new superhero.
Something has always bothered me about that. Greer never got her powers from the suit. She went through a series of enhancement treatments devised by Professor Joanne Tumulo. They had a similar effect on her as the super-soldier formula had on Steve Rogers, though it also enhanced her intellectual and empathic capacity. The costume had claws that could be used as grappling lines and the eyepieces might have enhanced her night vision, but the powers were in the woman. So, what happened to give Patsy her powers?
As far as I know, this has never been addressed, so the world may never know.
Patsy Walker was created by Stuart Little and Ruth Atkinson.
Hellcat was created by Steve Englehart and George Pérez.
Both are the property of Marvel Comics.
