Description This is not the Tessa Thompson version of the character. I will probably do that one sometime, but did want to do the version I greww up with first. Valkerye first appeared in the Avengers #83 when she formed a rival group of "Lady Liberators" to fight the Avengers. It turned out this version was actually the Enchantess in disguise. Like most reverse-sexism stories, this one has not aged well.

Val's second appearance was in Hulk #142. This time, Enchantress transformed a human activist named Samantha Parrington into the Asgardian powerhouse. She fought the Hulk until the spell wore off.

Val became a regular character In Defenders #4 when the Enchantress summoned her to fight the Executioner and his current paramour, a sorceress named Casiolena. With the help of the Black Knight and the Defenders (Hulk, Dr. Strange, and Namor) they won the day, but the enchantress turned the Black Knight to stone and fled, leaving Valkerye occupying the body of an otherwise catatonic woman named Barbara. This led to a long run with Val as a member of the Defenders. At first, she used the Black Knights Ebony blade. When he was freed of his petrification, Dr. Strange gave the sword Dragonfang as a replacement. There was some interesting drama as Val struggled to sort out her true identity from that of Brbara Norriss, the mortal woman whose body she shared. Unfortunately there was never a payoff for this storyline.

In more recent times, Valkerye has recovered her memory of her life in Asgard where she was named Brunnhild, nd, in looking at the online Marvel website, it looks like she's currently dead, which is a shame.

Valkerye was created by a lot of folks, but the version in The Defenders was created by Steve Englehart and Sal Buscema and is the property of Marvel.
