After the first season of Hazbin Hotel, I felt that I could choose who I think are the best and worst villains of that show so far and add them to the lists. It’s still subject to change when more content from both shows comes out, but these are my current rankings.

Top 5 Best:

5. Lute

I think she has the potential to be a solid villain. Despite only being Adam’s second in command, she showed a lot more competence than him. I’d say she’s the real reason the exorcists are a threat. While Adam is so blantantly a Nazi-like individual, Lute has a more subtle and realistic portrayal of that type of villain. And since the very end of the first season shows her taking over his position and is involved with the overarching mystery surrounding Lilith, she’s clearly going to pose a bigger threat later on.

4. Mammon and Crimson

I now think these two are equally good as antagonists. For Crimson, I may have said before that I hate him, and while he does get on my nerves, I still have to acknowledge that he is genuinely threatening and fulfills his role well. He definitely does a much better job as a villain than the ones on my least favorite list that I’ll get to.

As for Mammon, it was a pleasant surprise that the first two sins we were introduced to, Asmodeus and Beelzebub, were actually chill people. But it still made sense to have a sin that was actually villainous and Mammon delivered. As the embodiment of greed, it makes sense that he’s portrayed as a corrupted businessman who only cares about making a fortune even at the expense of others which makes you love to hate him. He’s also guaranteed to become a bigger threat down the line.

3. Verosika Mayday

If you know me, you know I’ll always have a thing for her. There are several reasons to love her. She’s not only insanely attractive and charismatic, but she’s the only villain among my favorites that’s not exactly evil. She’s just a naughty girl and is only considered a villain because she opposed the main characters. And while she works as an antagonist, I expect the show to make her a protagonist of sorts by going deeper into her character and her history with Blitzo like how it did with Fizzarolli. That would make her even more likable.

2. Vox and Velvette

I was very impressed with how entertaining I found these two. While Valentino is as hateable as he was expected to be, the other two Vees are the kinds of villains that you love to hate or even just love in some ways. Velvette has charisma and style and I find her self-absorbed boss-lady attitude very amusing. I’m also a little ashamed to admit that I think she’s sexy. Vox is the intelligent and rational one but also has the major flaw of losing his cool when it comes to his beef with Alastor. It’s a nice recipe for the kind of character he is if you ask me. With the Vees being set up as major villains in the next season, I more than look forward to seeing how much fun these two will be to watch.

1. Striker

I still think he’s the best out of both shows for now. A real charismatic badass cowboy hitman that always feels like a real threat and plays off the protagonists better than any other antagonist in the show if you ask me. The show itself even seems aware of how awesome they made him since they gave him his own theme song.

Top 5 Worst:

5. The Cherubs and D.H.O.R.K.S.

Unless they appear again and become more interesting, I still find both of these groups to be pretty lackluster.

For the Cherubs, they can also be considered “villains” simply because they opposed the main characters. While I liked how they’re basically the foils to I.M.P. and their interactions with them were funny, I just find the cherubs to be kind of boring on their own. I didn’t even feel that bad for them when they were banished from Heaven. Maybe they’re better off without a place that kicks them out for stupid reasons.

For D.H.O.R.K.S., I like the idea of these secret agent humans investigating the demons that appear on Earth and trying to hunt them down, and while they’re amusing with how they’re incompetent to some extent, I also found them to be underwhelming as actual antagonists. They just didn’t seem all that threatening to me.

4. Adam

For the big bad of the first season of Hazbin, he was honestly underwhelming. They tried too hard to make it clear that he was misogynistic and had the personality of a stereotypical frat bro. He just didn’t come across that much as a serious threat nor a fun and entertaining villain. Now there are theories that he could be reborn as a sinner demon stuck in Hell and that has the potential to make him a much more interesting character. But for now, he sucks in my eyes.

3. Valentino

Obviously for being a psychotic sex offender and the most blatantly evil character in the show, he never had a chance at being favorable. He does do a decent job at fulfilling his role which is more that can be said for the villains that I find worse than him as he’s meant to provide the conflict for Angel Dust’s character arc. People have said Angel wouldn’t be as compelling as he is if Val didn’t have the role he has and they’re not wrong. He also has potential to be somewhat entertaining in regards to his dynamic with the other Vees. However, he’s just far from a good villain on his own.

2. Chaz Thurman and Bernie Burnz

These two will always suck ass. For Chaz, he just came across as a discount Angel Dust with all his arrogance and horniness, but without anything that makes Angel an endearing character. There was really nothing that made him likable or interesting in the slightest and there wasn’t enough insight into his relationships with both Moxxie and Millie as I think there could’ve been.

For Burnie, his purpose was clearly meant to be a representation of insanely toxic fans and haters, but of course that didn’t make him any less tedious to watch. He also came across as irrelevant as I don’t think he contributed anything to the plot of the episode he was in. He was clearly someone who had no life (and he literally doesn’t have one now XD).

1. Stella Goetia

Still the absolute lamest villain in both shows. At least the previous two were only one-time antagonists and killed off right away. Since Stella is meant to be one of the main villains of the entire series, she has a worse impact as a terrible villain. She had some potential to be a detestable yet intimidating villain in a position of power. The show succeeded at that with Crimson, but failed miserably with her. Her motivations fall completely flat with her only reason for being married to Stolas is that she enjoys tormenting him and then wanting him dead purely out of spite and not even caring that her family’s fortune will go to Octavia instead of her if Stolas dies as her brother had to remind her and point out how childish she was being. I don’t know what the intentions were for her character, but from my perspective, she’s just a lost cause.
