Description
Located not far from Saint Malo, the carved rocks of Rotheneuf, chief of naive work of art, deserve a turning. The author was a monk hermit, hemiplegic: the Fouré abbot.

Withdrawn on this rock, it carved, day after day, since 1870 and during 25 years the granite of the coast. It took as a starting point the the history of the Rothéneuf family, made up corsairs but also of fishermen, pirates and smugglers who foamed the coast until the Revolution.

Being spread out over nearly 500 square meters of rocks, it is more than three hundred figures of pirates and other marine monsters which tell the adventures of this dynasty, in a strange atmosphere where mix the sea, the winds, the stone and the work of the artist.

Situé non loin de Saint Malo, les rochers sculptés de Rotheneuf, chef d’œuvre de l’art naïf, méritent un détour.

L’auteur était un moine ermite, hémiplégique : l’abbé Fouré. Retiré sur ce rocher, il sculpta, jour après jour, à partir de 1870 et pendant 25 ans le granit de la côte.

Il s’inspira de l'histoire de la famille Rothéneuf, composée de corsaires mais aussi de pêcheurs, pirates et contrebandiers qui ont écumé la côte jusqu’à la Révolution.

S'étalant sur près de 500 mètres carrés de rochers, ce sont plus de trois cents figures de pirates et autres monstres marins qui racontent les aventures de cette dynastie, dans une étrange atmosphère où se mêlent la mer, les vents, la pierre et le travail de l’artiste.
