I didn't want a generic 'Heres Rapunzel in her easter-egg dress whipping her hair' fanart that's goin on around here for my first 'proper' Tangled fanart. I also prefer her hair wavy, with paintbrushes and crap stuck in it

Sure, I totally get what you're saying.
I have the same issues with my posters.
yeah, I think it's the natural way to go.. everybody starts in a not-so-original place. The question is how far we're willing to go to try new stuff out, a lot of which won't work.
As I've said before, I think you're going in an very interesting direction.
and about the Tangled artbook.. don't even get me started on that.. WHY SO GORGEOUS?

I know, I can't even begin to describe how stunning, its just, ugh, s-t-u-n-n-i-n-g. Though, I do feel that some of that stunningness didn't get translated as well on screen, as much as I love the movie, I do feel, after I looked at the art before it, that it was a little washed out in comparison. Perhaps I'm being a bit too fussy, but I guess that's what studying art does to you haha.
Have you seen the art of the princess and the frog? Or Toy story 3? Those are just pure magic.

Princess and the Frog probably translated it better, but still.
What I'm not too fond of, is the final design for both Flynn and Gothel. I think there are better ones in the book.

I don't like Flynn's design to be honest, hes just so...no, I don't like. However I DID like Jin Kim's early sketches of him, he kinda has a big bear thing going on, really broad and large, I always thought it'd make a nice change to the typical Disney male lead. As for Gothel, I was just generally disappointed with her all round, to me she doesn't have the same impact as say, Ursula or Frollo.

that's exactly how I feel. I loved flynn as a large guy.
the closest we have is the beast in human form.. but it doesn't even compare.
but I think things would have been a bit dificult with him like that. the first 15 minutes of the movie wouldn't work at all if he was fat. all that running and climbing and everything else. apart from that, I'm all for a bear type of prince. Maybe in Brave?

It would have had to be adapted yeah, but they could have done it comically. Plus Rapunzel does seem more likely to fall for a more, average-joe kinda guy than the other Princesses.
I think Pixar are more likely to do that than Disney. Disney have all that history of dashing princes where as Pixar are known for creating orignal and unique characters, so, I'll have my fingers crossed. OhmyGod Brave, I really can't wait to see what they do with it

You have been making my day for weeks on end with this picture! I still havent taken it off of my watch! It is just so wonderful in the sense that this is something that I would have loved to see animated. Personally the lighting and colors you did for this picture worked wonders for the emotion of the piece. This is just... OUTSTANDING!!!
