In this timeline Napoleon succesfully leads the Expédition d'Irlande in 1796 and manages to defeat several times the british army, however Britain, afraid french victory in Ireland would lead to a french invasion of Britain, doesn't even consider to surrender. The war in Ireland is dragged until 1802, many things changed in the meanwhile. The United States invaded, on behalf of France, british holdings in North America (in order to appease the now large french-speaking minority both french and english were officially adopted as official languages). Napoleon left Ireland in 1799 and defeated Austria and Naples, trying to invade northern Italy. Sisters Republics were established in Veneto and southern Italy. They later formed the Italic Confederation, however this new state was satisfied of beign a french puppet state, in later years they demanded Piedmont and Corse from France, invade Sicily and the Papal States and occupying Tuscany. Tuscany had been given to Spain, which wasn't willing to give it up, in 1801 Spain declared war on Italy. The french government retreated their forces from Ireland, preparing to resist an invasion from the Pyrenees. The war however was never fought, France ceded some overseas territories to Spain in compensation. The Republic of Ireland, without French support, was quickly defeated by the british. The french public was strongly against the government that abandoned Ireland and overreacted to the Spanish treath, Napoleon seized power with overwelming public support. He fought many campaigns across Europe, proclaiming himself Emperor of France in the meantime, but he still wasn't able do defeat Britain. However he was preparing to, a fleet composed of Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Danish and obviously French ships was assembled and in 1822, with half of Europe baking him, he invaded the British Isles. The Royal Navy was surely better equipped and prepared, but Napoleon had raw numbers on his side. Crossing the channel costed many lives, but once landed Napoleon quickly defeated the british and captured London. Many in the parliament wanted to negotiate with Napoleon, and when he landed they were the majority. The government and the king escaped to York with the hard-liner in the parliament, but Napoleon entered London unopposed. Britain had now two governments and one had already surrendered, the other had to comply. Ireland became an independent Republic (although Napoleon considered establishing his sister Elisa as queen of Ireland) and the area surrounding Dover formed a new french puppet-state. The British Empire, bankrupt and torned apart by rebellions, ungloriously collapsed. Napoleon, after defeating his last enemy, was killed after returning to Paris, during a parade. After his death his son was meant to become Emperor of the Frech, but the provisional government held a plebiscite about the monarchy and France turned once again into a Republic. Some, like Murat, viceroy of Italy, or Lucien Bonaparte, king of Croatia, accepted the plebiscite and abolished too their respective monarchy. Some like Spain and Russia distanced themselves from France, some like Prussia and the members of the Rhine Confederation declared war on France. Europe however was tired of wars and when Germany was reorganized in a wide variety of Sister Republics, no one dared to interfere. France, Italy, Sweden, Germany, Prussia and some other minor states created "The continental Alliance", an alliance that was going to shape the history of Europe for the centuries to come.
