The two stretched as they entered the emporium.
It was late, and they wantd to get some more money in before returning to the Hopping Toad Inn for a deserved rest.
"Hey DK." Naruko greeted the familiar clerk.
"You look tired, tough quest?" He asked.
"Nah, just got back from Miroku, long walk." Naruko replied.
"So you rushed home to see me, huh?" he flirtaciously smirked, wiggling his eyebrows.
The girls both chuckled, "Just want to off load and get some extra cash."
"No... no big spending today?!" He blinked, nervously.
"Why?" Hinata asked.
"Matt's still making me pay off the... 'loan' for those uniforms." he sighed "Being uniforms, I thought the business would pay for them but..."
"You really should have consulted with I dunno, your business partner!" Came Matt's voice from the back room.
"Oh! Is Matt here today?!" Hinata asked.
"Yeah, but he's heading out again in the morning." DK said, and leaningover the counter to whisper... despite no one else being in the store "He's got a lead on some nice items over at the Knightsfall."
"Wow... he goes that close to Demonsgate?!" Naruko looked surprised.
"Oh yeah, Matt goes all over the place looking for our unique items." DK said proudly. "It's why we're the best adventurers suppliers around."
"Then why aren't you selling more of the basics?" Matt asks walking out.
"Well, we need to advertise more, I keep telling you." DK argues back.
"Ugh... fine, just keep the expenses down." Matt says, disappearing again.
DK pouts, "Cheapskate!" he mutters, only or Matt to poke his head back around the door with a glare, before slowly disappearing again.
Naruko and Hinata giggle, and DK smiles, then gets an Idea. "Hey, you sexy ladies, why don't you help? For a small discount, of course." he winks.
"Oh?" Naruko grins, leaning in, resting on the counter, hearing of a deal to be made.
"Ten percent discount, an you girls wear some of our new adventurers wear." he says. "Just for a few hours tomorrow. Walk around with some signs."
Naruko looked to Hinata, who seemed dubious.
"What kind of..." She went to ask before Naruko interrupted.
"DEAL!" she said, shaking his hand.
"N-Naruko..." Hinata pouted "We should see wht we have to wear first!"
"Whats the worst it could be? It's adventuring gear!" She smiled.
Hinata just gave her a look, and approahed the counter. "Umm, I would like those scrolls please." she pointed to the magic scrolls.
"Sure." DK smiles, and gets them for her, as Naruko pulls out some rabbit hides, and gems, for sale.
"What are those arrows?" Naruko asked, looking at the unusual missiles.
"Oh, those are just in, Walloping arrows." DK explained "They pack quite the punch, so I am told. Not useful for hunting, but wanna knock something down, or break through a door..."
"Okay, I'll take the bundle." Naruko smiled. "I don't use my bow much, but they may come in handy."
DK nodded, and money changed hands.
With that small business taken care of the girls leave for the Inn, resting for the night before returning the next day to fulfill their discount deal.
DK grinned as he handed them some 'samples' of adventurers clothing that had recently come in. Apparently it was becoming popular.
Hinata found it a bit cute for mage wear, while Naruko was uncertain for her own, DK assuring her that if armour was worn over it, it would look far better.
Either way, it was what they were wearing, and so began a day of them walking the street of Konoha with signs, calling out about the store, and how people should go there.
An exhaustive day of walking and yelling that made Naruko's throat dry several times, and getting a few catcalls from men who liked the look, and a ew women who thought Hinata's ensemble was cute.
A little business was certainlybeing drummed up.
But it was done, ten percent discount and now they could just relax, and look towards their next course of action.
After breakfast the next day, Hinata chose to stay in their room, she wanted to inscribe the scrolls contents in her book and study them intently for the next couple of days.
"What about you?" Hinata asked the blonde.
"Since I have the soul gems, I was thinking of practicing my new enchantment skills, but I don't really have anything I wanna apply a buff to, and my sword is a bit too high level for me to add to it." she replies.
"Why don't you go to the mages tower?" Hinata asked. "You can look up a new enchantment there."
"I guess." she said, "I've never been there before though. Does it cost?"
"If you want to purchase spells, yes." she said "But if you want to use the facilities, no, but I AM a member of the mages tower, so I do not know about non-members."
"Well, no harm in finding out." she says, getting up from the table, "I'll see you later, I guess." she chuckled as the two parted ways.
Naruko spent most of the walk to the tower behind Konoha castle thinking aboutwhat she wanted to do, what kind of enchantment, as well as what she was capable of.
Magic was something she really only grew interested in after meeting Hinata, it was useful, even if her MP was low, especially compared to a Mage like Hinata, who has several times more.
When she arrived at the mage district the style seemed to change, as more magical items were around, from lamps to decor. The buildings even seemed cleaner and neater, unlike the wooden buildings, these buildings were primarily stone.
Mage were everywhere and Naruko began to feel a little out of place as a warrior.
Still, she continued on to the tower and arrived at the reception.
The elven man sat there reading looked over to her, eyeing her up.
"Teleport gates are down the stairs." he said.
"Oh... err... I'm not here for gate travel, I'm looking for some... enchantment... spells." she said feeling awkward, especially as he raised an eyebrow.
"Whats your level?" he said.
"Of... my enchantment?" she asked, the look he gave her making her sweat, as that seemed to answer her. "Just level one. I know some buffs, but i would like to learn something elemental."
"Hmm..." he said. "Are you a member of the Mages order?"
"No... but my partner is, she..." Naruko replies beore being cut off.
"One moment please." he interrupted, before lifting a sending stone, and waved his hand over it. "Professor, there is a level one enchanter here. Please come assess." he said, and went back to reading.
It wasn't long before a man in a suit came down the stairs, long brown hair, tied back and a scar across his face.
"Hello, I'm Iruka, a professor he..." he greeted before looking to Naruko. "You look like..." he blinked.
"Like?" She asked.
"Someone I met a couple of years ago. Naruto Uzu..."
"..maki, yes, thats my older brother." she smiled, pleased. "So youknow him, do you know where he..." she asked excitedly before being shushed by the receptionist.
"Come with me." Iruka smiled as they headed upstairs. "Your brother had an interest in some magic, so he took a course here, while training his summoning skills."
"Ugh... I barely use them." Naruko groaned.
"Aren't Uzumaki a Summoning clan?" Iruka asks, confused.
"Yeah... I learned to, and made a fox contract, but I want to use my own power... so I never developed... mom would get pissed whenever I skipped practice, but..." she looked to the side. "Naruto got pretty good at it."
"Yeah, he was using it a lot in his fights to increase power." Iruka says. "He actually wnted to use other kinds of magic, so I gave him some basic lessons in what he was interested in, though enchanting wasn't one of them."
"Oh?!" she said, looking to him for more.
"He did some attack spells, but he was interested in support spells, oddly."
"Oddly?"
"Since he was a front-liner in battle, yet support casters are often found in the back."
"Oh, yeah, that is kinda odd." Naruko agreed.
"So... I would be happy to teach you some enchantment spells." he smiled.
"Great, how much?" she asked.
"As Naruto's sister, how about we make this an assessment test." he says.
"For what?"
"For joining the Mages order." he says. "That way you can get future assistance, and training for free."
"Really? and that's free too?" she asked.
"Well... no. It's fifty gold to join the order, but the assement is free." he smiles. "You can choose later if you want to join.
"wow... umm, thanks." she smiles. "So, I was thinking something elemental, I have a ton of G-grade soul gems, and I thought it would be cool to make a flaming whip, like the whole thing is on fire and..."
"Slow down." Iruka chuckles, "thats a high level enchantment, but, you can give your whip an elemental attribute, at your level."
"Oh..." she says, a little disappointed, but she knew she had to start somewhere.
"And as long as you can supply the materials, I can teach you to do an enchantment, otherwise you need to purchase them from the Tower. Also, any soul gems you want to sell, can go towards payment, or just get some money, the higher the better."he smiled.
"Just like the temple." Naruko smiled.
Iruka stopped and looked to her a bit sternly. "Maybe, but we would prefer them, we will pay the base price, of course, maybe more in time." he said, giving Naruko a feeling the Temple and the mages had a bit of an issue with soul gems, but she chose not to ask right now, and begin.
Iruka led her to a room, and the teaching began.
With her basic knowledge Naruko understood most of what ws needed, but after several hours of learning formulae and magical concepts, her brain hurt, but Iruka was good enough to get her to memorize a basic fire elemental enchantment. it would be low power, but Naruko was happy enough, though she would have to return the next day, as her focus was shot, and she had to study the process more, and with a promise to return the next day she returned to the inn, finding Hinata dressed for bed, but sat on her bed writing in her spell book.
She smiled at Naruko, and greeted her, getting the story from Naruko before the blonde lay in bed, and read the, less than neat, notes she had taken.
"Why do Mages have to write things themselves!" she sighed.
"Because magic requires a firm understanding." Hinata says.
"That's what Iruka said." She groaned, "I still don't get it. I learned in a book first."
"You learned basic principles, to get better you need to study, but one persons understand may not always be complete to another. So writing down your knowledge helps you keep clear your own understanding of the spell."
"My brain hurts..." she groaned, making Hinata giggle.
Naruko studied for almost an hour before she fell asleep, and Hinata cleared up the notes, and put the blanket over her companion, wishing a pleasant dream.
The following day Naruko was once more at the mages tower, but while the previous day was study, now she had to put it in to practice.
Her whipe was placed on a table, surrounded by ten soul gems, one would be sufficent for a G-grade enchantment, but with enough for an F-grade there was the greater the chance of success, and that was all she was aiming for, a low level G-grade enchantment.
A couple of other students had come to watch the warriror perform her first enchantment, so she was a little nervous... and riled at being watched, and not wanting to fail in front of anyone.
Iruka gave her some encouragment, and she raises her hands, building up her magic as she focuss on the many things she needed to know to cast the enchantment' on the whip, and installing a magical core for the enchantment to attach to.
Everyone waited, and soon the arcane circles appeared, and the soul gems all began to glow brighter as their energy was drained in to the circles, and down on to the whip before everything lowered and engulfed the whip.
Naruko breathed out, her head pounding from the extreme concentration she had gone through.
Iruka smiled, the whip looked like it had before, but now had a slight maical aura to it, that only spell casters could innately sense, but more than that, all ten soul gems were now dust, a sign that they had been drained of energy.
"So?" Naruko smiled, breathing heavily as she tried to ignore the pain in her head.
Iruka cast the identify spell and confirmed the success.
"An excellent job, you achieved an F-grade enchantment on your first try." he said, proudly. "You may have talent."
"I hope I don't get headaches all the..." she said, before she could feel her enchantment level grow, the innate sense of improvement all people felt when levelling up. She'd have to get her stats checked at the guild again.
"Well, I think that's a pass." he says, understanding the reaction she had. "So, why don't you go home, rest, and consider joining the Mages Order." he says.
Naruko chuckled, and nodded, soon leaving with her new whip.
She gave it a crack while outside, creating sparks of flame, and seeing it, she was filled with a sense of achievement, and began to run to show Hinata.
Hinata herself had finally finished the second spell witht he last of her ink, and raised her hand, ficusing on the new spell, alter self, and witht he magic flowing every second as her hand changed, her fingers altering, a little painfully as muscle and bone changed and her nails thickened and grew in to sharp claws, before releasing the draining magic and reverting to her hand to normal.
It would be something she would have to get used to, but she wondered about the many other changes she could try, even though small for now, if she practiced, what advantages could she get...
