Description
The three "Long Expsoure..." pictures were inspired by Gjon Mili's 1949 photograph "Picasso". He got Picasso to draw in the air using a torch whilst in a pitch black room. Using long exposure it captures all the movements of the torch and then a flash discharge at the end illuminates the scene. So I decided to have a go!! The kanji (chinese characters) that I've drawn represent my name in Japanese kanji (although the neatness is somewhat lacking!) But this is NOT digital or manipulated...something that makes me quite proud of the results!

i really like this and think the setting adds much to the composition, like someone already said you do also have that picasso look kinda goin on which i think adds even more interest - very good choice on black and white i think, nice job, a favourite

wait, so how do you manage to do that, yet still have yourself not blurry in the shot?

hiya, thanks for the views and fav on number 3.
the concept is a simple but fun one that opens up a route for some really fun photography.
- the photo is in a pitch black room
- you open the shutter and start drawing in the air with a small torch
- when you're finished drawing, use a flash gun to light up the scene
- then close the shutter
the result is the lines from the torch in the pitch black room plus a frozen image when the flash goes off...simple!
check out lomography for more along this line!
cheers again

it was actually less difficult to do this than I thought....but I did have an assistant to operate the shutter and flash
I love the original picture...it seems a bit more flowing than mine...but hey, Mili is God so what can I expect!!?

This is a lovely study to have done, it's a shame the full view won't work for me though..
The composition of this piece rather than the concept was what first caught my eye... from the thumb you look a little like thom yorke of Radiohead fame.

what a neat idea... the result is very good.. and i don't think it needs a black background.. quite the contrary.. the structured background ads a lot of life to this photo.... very well done!

That's neat. It would have worked better with a pitch black backdrop and room.
