On you-tube there's all the series, original and in Japanese, with English subtitles; I saw it twice, but I don't remember which episode it is and what happened to Atlas. In some episodes he got injured after a battle against humans or a duel against Atom. But the 1980's series maltreated Atlas, not giving him a precise focus on his own agenda. So it's hard to remember in which episode it happened.
Here maybe Livian saved him. Can't remember, sorry.
