Description

Finally finished this boy's ref, after adopting him as a centaur adopt last year on fA (I think? Don't remember the exact date). I've made him primarily feral, and his humanoid probably won't be a centaur type, more likely a simple kemonomimi type humanoid, or a satyr/faun. Original adopt can be seen here (if anyone knows the artist, please let me know x-x I stupidly saved the file without the artist's name, and I can't seem to find it in my fA faves). Name: Jyoti
Age: Unknown; he is fairly young, likely the equivalent of a mid teen in humans
Sex: Hermaphrodite, however thinks of himself as masculine
Species: Solar-type Kirin (He is based off traditional kirin lore in some aspects, however I have my own headcanon for my 'version' of them)
About: Kirin are rare, deer-like magical beings - their magic is the core of their existence. They may have anywhere from one to five horns. Kirin are able to eat, however this is not necessary unless they are weak, or far away from a magical place of power- kirin self-sustain, and absorb power from nature when needed. They tend to have an element they are born of, and are able to control to various extents, the most common one being earth - one of the reasons they're sometimes referenced as forest guardians. Jyoti is one of the more uncommon varieties, who is a being composed primarily of solar magic. His main specialties are healing and illusions, and he has a very good grasp on protective spells. While he is not as strong with it, he is able to use his abilities for offensive means, as well. Kirin have no sexual dimorphism - they are a single sex hermaphroditic race. They differ in build, much as any other species, however, so there may be slender, fluffy kirin like Jyoti, or large, muscular kirin that look little like him.

Baby kirin are born usually in a litter of one, rarely with twins (generally identical, if at all - these are often absorbed by the mother) to a family unit of two parents. They are born hornless and unable to see, and rely on their parents until they are teenagers, or sometimes fully grown, much like humans do. They do not come into their full power until their horns come in late in their childhood, which is when their affinity is typically revealed.

While kirin are fairly social creatures, due to their roaming nature, they have a preference to live in small family or friend units, rather than large herds. They have a complex society, much like people, however they have no countries or formal sovereign, though their fundamental laws are universal. Each area with a relatively dense population of kirin has one or more elder, experienced kirin who may help decide punishments and guide others in their time of need, but it is not a formal position.

Personality: Reclusive and shy, mistrustful and fearful to the point of bolting of most others, stubborn, surprisingly-clumsy, curious but naive, intelligent. Clings closely to the few he has reason to trust. Compassionate to those in pain - empath.

Other: Blind from a fairly young age - since his horns first came in, due to a surge of magical energy irreversibly damaging his optic nerves. Eyes are pearlescent/iridescent - colors will vary depending on his surroudings, but tend to blue hues as he had blue eyes prior to his blindness. Has very sensitive hearing, and strongly dislikes+is fearful of loud noises.
