Description
I'm so happy this new animated series came out. I was one of the two art directors for this series: episode 2,4,5,7,9, and 11. It was a long year and it was a very hard role, I had to learn so much but thankfully it all came together and I'm very much satisfied by the result. Have you seen it? if not look it up on Netflix as: Legend Quest: Masters of Myth, I hope you enjoy it as much as I didRelated content

Really good.Β
I just finished binge watching both series and personally, neither are my favorite.Β
Although I am impressed by the improvements in both the animation style and dialogue made in Masters of Myth, the fact you were forced to scrap the continuity with the first series was pretty disappointing.
In any case, keep up the great work.Β Β Β Β

I know! Believe me, the team and myself were dissapointed about having to make a soft reboot, at the time we were given the instruction we were already 3 months into preproduction, even the intro was half animated (sadly we had to scrap pretty much all of that work), it was going to keep continuity and the visual style was the same but improved form the first season. Anyways... I have to say that in the end the new style grew on me but it's definitely different. Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts and for thaking the time to watch the series

Hello there! So I really enjoyed Legend Quest Myth even more than the previous series since it did a lot of things differently. Now I understand why this wasn't a direct continuation of the first series due to the explanation you gave you HistoryisAwesomeGuy but if it isn't too much of a burden, I was hoping I could ask you some questions for this series:
For Myth, what resulted in the idea of Teodora becoming Leo's love interest instead of Marcella? There were teases of it in the previous series but the that series seem to frame Marcella as Leo's main love interests.Β Ironically enough, even though I do like Leodora more, I found that Leo and Marcella had better chemistry and a more fun dynamic in Myth then in the previous series.
For the reboot, was it seen as a chance to rework some characters? Because characters such as Teodora, Leo, Don Andres and especially Marcella were much better in Myth then in Legend in my opinion.Β
Is it safe to say that Marcella has/had a crush on Leo in Myth? Because in the finale, she had a sad expression on her face when Leo and Teodora hugged each other.Β
Do you think there's a chance that if we get a season 2, we get some fill in the blank information such as how Leo met Teodora, Don Andres, and Alibreje in the Myth continuity and why Teodora spirit was first sent back into the past since the circumstances seem to be different?Β
Was Teodora being physically in the past an idea that was going to be used for the original second season but ended up being utilized in myth?Β
And finally, why do the Sugarskulls hide their existence from Leo and the others?Β

Hello there! Thanks for writing. I'm really glad you liked Masters of Myth! I have to say that when I joined the team I was also expecting the series to be a direct continuation, as I was telling that was the intention when the project started, that's why there are some situations that seem to be connected to the first season, for instance, Marcela has her magic powers, which she got in the first season, in the first episode of masters of myth you can see leo in his town in a flashback saying legball stopped being fun, when Leo invented legball in season1, and there were some dialogs that were cut out after Netflix's decision to make Masters of Myth a soft reboot, I remember in episode 2, at the end when Leo and Marcela talk privately Leo told her that being a monster hunter could "change" who they were if the were not careful, mainly refering to both being in constant competition and their relationship being affected, that part didnt appear in the final cut. Teodora was in a coma in season 1 and that's even refered to in Teodora's vision when the "Anansi" caught them in episode 8.Β
About Marcela I loved watching her as a more confident/heroic and very capable character and it was great having her lead her own team. I believe that in masters of myth there was some tension between them and they had a crush on each other, but Leo's relationship with teodora grew from a very close friendship to something more because of everything they lived together, in fact I believe there was always some kind of tension between teo and leo ever since season 1, but it hadn't evolved further.
The way I like to watch the series and the way I like to build the story in my mind (even though its not the official story) is that masters of myth was a continuation of the first legend quest, with some gaps obviously but for me, Myth happens after the first season and Leo and Marcela's relationship was affected by their rivalry to the point where Leo's relationship with Teodora grew stronger, and thats why Marcela seems upset at the final episode.Β
About your question of having Teodora being physically in the past, I'm sure it was explored as an idea for season2 because she had to find a way to go back to the past and help Leo after that letter was delivered to her in the hospital. Thats why she's mad at leo in episode 1, she found a way to go back and leo was just interested in his streak after all she had to do.Β
Finally about the sugar skulls, they are Leo's protectors and they're supposed to back him up, nothing is really specified in masters of myth but they were agents of the "catrina" remember her? from season 1 episode 5. For some reason the skulls like to act in secrecy, who knows, maybe there's a bigger plot hiding there.
I really hope we get a green light on another season, that would be so much fun. If we do I'm sure lots of gaps can be explored, I've always wondered how Leo met Teodora myself haha.Β
Thank you for your interest and for the fun chat
Mauricio

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions, they definitely helped clear some things up. And I hope the show gets a season 2 to since its a great series and it really would be nice to get information to help fill in the blanks of this series and how events from the first series played out differently in this continuity. Like, Netflix's reasoning for it is reallyΒ weird. Like, why wouldn't you want new watchers to watch the first season of a show?Β Wouldn't the fact that a show getting a new season help to bring in new watchers since they'll see it on their page? I mean, in a way I'm kind of happy about the change since Myth was even better than the first series but that way of thinking makes absolutely no sense and it lead to many fans of the series confused about certain things.

Hi there, I've got to tell you that I really enjoyed this season of Legend Quest probably more than I did the series that came before. The change in art style did surprise me, but I think it worked just perfectly. One of the best additions you all made was getting Marcella to have a team of friends all her own to have their own journey, as well as feature a romance building between Leo and Teodora. While I'm a little disappointed that you weren't the art director for episode 8, I am pleased to see that you were the art director for episode 11 which has the best scenes between Leo and Teodora.
I am really hoping that the studio and staff don't take too much long in making the next season and I do hope that you all will both continue the plot threat left open for the next season as well as continue the romance between Leo and Teodora. "Legend Quest"/"Legend Quest: Masters of Myth" have to be some of the most underrated animated shows on Netflix, and that is a shame because what you all have been doing have been great and I really hope to see the next season sooner rather than later.

Hey there! Thank you very very much for sharing your thoughts and your oppinion on the series! Well at the beginning this was going to be a followup to the first season of legend quest, if you look closely there are still some little things that connect both of the stories, like leo's flashback in his hometown talking about legball, or teodora's nightmare when her mother mentions the coma, marcela's nightmare carrying her mom just as she did in season1's flashback... what happened is that 3 months into preproduction we were ordered by netflix to make this a new story altogether because they didn't want new watchers to go back and watch the first season. That was a really hard blow to the team because we had to trow 3 months worth of work to the trashcan. That's why we had to create a new artstyle to make it even clearer that this was a new show. In the team we all wanted to continue the story but that's how things went. I also love how Leo and teodora finally get to build a more personal relationship, and those cool moments you mention in episode 8 and 11. I've grown to love these characters, they are a pretty cool bunch, and Marcela has always been one of my favs after Teo.Β
About the next season, it all depends on netflix really because they have to measure the serie's success to decide if thery're doing another. We took around a year and 4 months to make the series, so that's more or less the time we would need if Netflix wants another season (which would be great because I really enjoyed working on it). Let's hope they ask for another!
