A nadie le extrañó que Bode fuera sorteado en Hufflepuff, orgulloso lobato del grupo de Rayner Lane en North Harrow, Bode Kipling llevaba firmemente clavado en el corazón el lema del espíritu scout, los cuales estaban muy emparejados con los valores que la casa del tejón promovía.
Encajó muy bien en su casa y su personalidad alegre y amable le ganó una buena popularidad en el colegio, excepto quizás en los alumnos más retraídos, como “Moss” la chica esa que estaba en la ventana todo el tiempo y que solía desaparecer apenas su contagiosa risa se oía venir por la escalera.

Un entusiasmo que, para terror del guardabosque, pronto arrastró a un grupo de niños a formar un pequeño grupo de exploradores, la patrulla estrella de mar, listos para explorar todo el mundo natural mágico que Hogwarts tenía para ofrecerle.
El grupo, principalmente formado por amantes de las criaturas y en su mayoría por mestizos e hijos de muggle, se juntaba todos los sábados para que Bode les enseñase todo lo que había aprendido en su tiempo de Lobato y todo lo que su padre le enviaba por lechuza. Pero ahora, en cuarto año, Bode y su grupo tenían un nuevo objetivo. Habían escuchado que un niño de Slytherin con él que Bode compartía algunas asignaturas había logrado volverse animago y convertirse a voluntad en un cangrejo. Y esto era para Bode —y todos los amantes de las criaturas que conformaban su grupo— lo mejor que podría traerle el mundo mágico.
Hoy en día es normal verlo a él y a su inesperado grupo de admiradores correr detrás de Ash constantemente para conocer su historia, interrogarlo, admirarlo y aprender a hacer lo que él logró hacer. Lo cual es obviamente un suplicio para el pequeño Ash que no tiene la menor intención que nadie le convenza de que su principal pesar era una bendición.
