Well, as I said, some emotions have very similar visceral effects, such as attraction and fear, which can lead to the brain misinterpreting them as one another - it's why haunted house rides at theme parks are so popular with couples! Anyway, my research has found that strong enough attraction actually feels similar to another strong emotion - obedience. Certain susceptible people can start to misattribute arousal to some sort of hypnotic trance. It can even alter perception. They could, for example, see spirals in the object of their attention's eyes. Wait... you look distracted, are you alright?"I've had this picture for a while but it's so good I as waiting until I had a cool idea to pair with it. Hopefully everyone else finds this (tangentially related to some real science!) as cool as I do!
