"Oh, thanks for coming to the lecture, I'm really excited to get such a big audience! Oh, you wanted to hear more about misattribution of affect? Well, as I said, some emotions have very similar visceral effects, such as attraction and fear, which can lead to the brain misinterpreting them as one another - it's why haunted house rides at theme parks are so popular with couples! Anyway, my research has found that strong enough attraction actually feels similar to another strong emotion - obedience. Certain susceptible people can start to misattribute arousal to some sort of hypnotic trance. It can even alter perception. They could, for example, see spirals in the object of their attention's eyes. Well, it's fairly common knowledge you can only hypnotise people to do what they would already do without a trance, right?
