Description It would be an understatement to say that Vine's feet were not enjoying the gravel which surrounded this particular industrial complex. Her new psychiatrist assured her that the foot fetishist control of Severna Strickland was completely gone from her mind, but her feet still remained under the spell, and would for quite a number of additional therapy sessions. So, she had to deal with feet which refused to enter her custom-made shoes, and with running across uneven, pointy ground with only a thin layer of rough skin for protection. She still had to rush, though, the fate of a few nearby towns could well depend on it.

As she finally touched dirt, she sent out her supernatural senses through the endless network of roots beneath the ground. Her powers found a tall tree, and what she saw confirmed the brief she had received from MI6 (she had kinda assumed when working for them the first time she should be a bit suspicious). What looked like a standard large industrial complex remarkable only for being in the middle of nowhere was in fact a compound of just over a dozen large enclosures, sealed with a variety of high-tech looking sheets of metal and plastic, but each filled with soil and plant life and just... habitat-ness.

She'd heard from Superia and her other superpowered contacts that the whole thing started with some alien fallout, and eventually come to accept it. But Vine had found it hard to believe that even animals across the world had been affected as well. But the British government in all its colonial self-importance had (surprisingly, she thought) managed to round up any reported cases, erase them from the media, and keep them here, under lock and key.

And then, because as everyone knows, Parliament is incapable of executing on a good idea, someone had broken with containment protocol and now a meta-powered python was loose. And Vine was the nearest heroine that the spooks had contact details for - she was actually trying to bust a cocaine operation out of a cottage in the Yorkshire Dales, hopefully the drug lords would wait.

She idly wondered whether this was some insane conspiracy between the intelligence agency and the drug dealers as she easily got through the security checkpoint (carrying weapons when you don't have any superhuman durability is just asking for trouble, and it's very obvious that you're not when you wear a skin-tight catsuit). She then realised the officer at the inside gate was briefing her on the powers of this super-animal while she was busy imagining money being passed under the table at the Jorvik centre, for want of any knowledge of other York landmarks.

"So remember to just locate the creature and report back to us. Attempting to capture it without proper equipment would be disastrous for everybody."

Okay, cool, she hadn't missed anything important. After all, Vine had a strict policy of only attempting any capture or fight again clearly non-superpowered and untrained individuals. She was happy to stick to recon, otherwise. Leave beating up the snake or whatever to the soldiers.

The complex really was pretty on the inside. To her left was a huge stone pyramid, the quarantine signs around it announcing it to be an awakened crocodile's lair, in front of her was a sunken pit from which awful smelling fumes rose, with fibreglass walls around it plastered with warnings of a huge superpowered frog. She decided to stay way from the smell, and headed right towards the trees surrounding what was the habitat of the meta-python.

She stopped for a moment, considering the possibility that this was a Jurassic World scenario and she was going to be swallowed whole the moment she entered the enclosure. But Vine assumed military intelligence would have more robust ways to detect the snake than a movie megacorporation. Well, she hoped anyway as she climbed up the surrounding wall and on to a large tree, placing her feet on a smooth section of branch as she reclined on and around a more sturdy one.

As always, the plant-based heroine felt far more comfortable draped in the branches of one of nature's grandest creations than she did in the sterile checkpoint. Here, where she was meant to be, where her powers destined her to be, she could find peace. She could simply observe the world, she didn't need to think too much about her plan or her silly fantasies. Slipping into a mindful meditative state, she simply felt.

And her powers spread into the soil, and out to every plant in the complex.

Huge monsters caused her to feel the vibrations throughout the earth in their enclosures. She heard the screeching of a huge bat. She saw the hippo-bodied crocodile stalking the miniature river in its sandy lair. She sent her vision through every leaf and branch, searching for a serpentine shape somewhere between the enclosures.

And eventually she saw reticulated scales disappear behind the leafs of a tall oak just outside of the bat enclosure (marked 'Camazotz'). She transferred her sense of touch through the earth into the trunk of that tree.

It felt weirdly, but very nice.

Coils fit snugly around the tree. The soft skin below was a great contrast to the rough green-brown scales opposite. As the python moved, its body squeezed the tree softly. It wasn't tight enough to be uncomfortable, but it exerted enough pressure to give an odd feeling of safety, and warmth, and comfort.

Would it be able to make a human body feel like that?

Okay, that was a weird thought. Vine's real body shook her head and her 'eyes' started to search through the leaves of the python's new home.

With a practiced mental effort, which still required enough co-ordination of thought to start a small headache somewhere in her frontal lobe, Vine swept her vision through the leaves in a smooth motion, getting a full body look at the python, slightly longer than an adult human, with a wider head than usual.

And as her vision came around to the snake's front, she saw its eyes.

They were huge, bigger than a human's of the same size, and weirdly positioned on the thing's head. Clearly, they were the creature's main meta-adaptation (though the coils really were still almost supernaturally welcoming...)

But that wasn't what Vine noticed more. What she was entirely occupied by was the fact that the eyes were filled with constant, growing, swirling, circling, shifting colours.

They appeared in neverending waves, washing out from the centre of its eyes to the edge, only to be replaced by more. A constant tide that easily wiped away any other thoughts. The colours were truly beautiful, enrapturing on a level Vine had never experienced before. It would be an insult to her own brain to look away. So she didn't. She focused ever harder. She sent her sight through every single leaf that had a line to those eyes.

She saw every aspect of every colour. She understood their waves and their contours and their beauty and their hypnotism. She understood that it was impossible to look away, that all she could do was stare and accept the colours into her mind.

And when every visual part of her brain was saturated by green and yellow and blue, she heard something. Not from the snake directly, she hadn't transferred her hearing. It was from the colours themselves, echoing out from the caves in her thoughts. Filling the empty space in her mind that the hypnotic spectrum had washed away.

You are sssssafe here. You are relaxxxxed here.

She was content. She was protected. She was at ease.

You trusssst in me. Jusssst in me.

The snake was her friend. The snake had shown her the colours. It was nice. She knew she could do anything the snake said and she would be fine. After all, the colours would keep coming and wipe away any bad thoughts which came from it.

You will ssssleep for me now.

While the coloursss ssstill dominated every active thought, feeling returned to her now. Dream-like, ssshe felt the coilsss around the tree again, sssnugly carressssing her, confirming her feelingsss of sssafety and trussst. The sssmooth, lovely coilsss tightened, putting jusssst a bit more pressssure on her. The sssqueezzze wasss doing sssomething. It wasss sssqueezzzing out the lassst bit of free will.

Asss Vine'sss real eyesss closssed, ssshe underssstood. The python wasssn't her friend. It wasss her Massster.

Agent Courtney Birch of MI6 was the last person in the field at the Zoo entrance. She was just meant to lock the door if there was any non-humanoid movement on the scanners surrounding the entrance and stay in radio contact with Vine. But there had been no contact at all twenty minutes later, even though the superheroine was meant to be able to find anything in a plant-filled environment in minutes. Her hand hovered around her pistol nervously as she shifted her short frame subtly to rest on the doorway, ready to leap behind it and shut the reinforced gate in less than a second.

She was almost excited to do that, and would be if it wasn't leaving a valued asset inside with a loose predator, but the excitement in her tense body died as she got a humanoid reading on the scanner. She stepped out, just past the gate.

"Vine, you do know we have radio contact, right? You just had to say something and I'd pick it up." One hand on her hip and the other on her receiver, Courtney was in a more relaxed stance. She started to regret it when she saw the heroine. There was definitely something off about Vine.

Her hair was no longer in a tight ponytail, instead flowing wildly in every direction. More notably the woman was no longer in the standard superhero catsuit, but was simply wearing some print lingerie that exposed her dark brown skin.

As she came closer, with a sleepwalking gait, Courtney saw that Vine's once big, brown eyes were filled with scintillating colours.

"Hi, Mrssss. Sssspook, I found the Python, I really really like him..."

Stood outside of the perimeter bunker, Courtney didn't see the python-shaped reading until a coil had already made it around her waist.

Before she could move, the agent's arms were bound to her sides by a second, surprisingly smooth, coil - strong enough that she couldn't fight her way out or reach any of the gadgets on her belt, but not tight enough to crush her.

"Don't worry, Agent. You can be hisss hypno-pet, jussst like me."

Courtney shuddered at the sleepy glee in the metahuman's voice as she saw her bend down in front of her (while her knees were locked in place by another coil). She didn't see anything else, though, as her vision was suddenly dominated by dual orbs of slightly familiar, all-encompassing colour.

She felt a hand deftly manipulate the pressure point of her own to remove her radio, and then she felt her belt being pulled down. But the coils were making it difficult to feel anything else. She tried to struggle, but a combination of the strong, safe coils and a weird voiced impulse growing in her head to not resssissst prevented her completely.

So Courtney was trapped staring at an endless barrage of colour, and whenever she tried to close her eyes some part of her thought to trussst her, keep watching. And despite her mental training, she was finding it very hard to resist the urge to stare deeper and deeper, something about the colours was making her feel very, very good. And was that Vine's tongue?

The coils kept wrapping around her and she couldn't help but smile dumbly as she kept feeling so, so good. She couldn't break, though. She was a servant of the country itself. Just the pleasssure of thossse pretty coloursss wasssn't enough. Through her empty smile, Courtney's will held on.

And then she felt coils close around her neck, and even as oxygen left her brain a large part of it could only think of how sssafe and sssound she was inside them.

Ssshe felt ssso good. Ssshe couldn't breathe. Ssshe couldn't stop ssstaring. Couldn't essscape. Didn't want to. Ssshe was about to...

*PING*

Kaa was content as his two human pets, the one whose powers he sensed, and the one who guarded his prison, made noises of pleasure behind him, as he set to the business of ensuring every creature his warden-slave had released were similarly obedient to his will. He had secured the passage of his monstrous brethren by having his powered-slave contact the soldiers of humanity directly (after some creative phrasing to avoid the unfortunate sibilance in his pet's speech), and was just finishing with the Camazotz before he absconded somewhere with his prizes and figured out what to do. There were a lot of trees in the area, the powered-slave said, where they could rest...

Well, for my 100th deviation (though I don't believe it's my 100th manip, so I'll have to think of something else special for that!), I've combined Kaa with superheroines in a winning DA formula! I think it's interesting that the kaa eyes have ended up flashy this time, not sure how to replicate...

Going with Shay Mitchell as the standard Vine rep partly because she's absolutely gorgeous, partly because she's fairly close to how I envision Vine and partly just because I've aleady used her as a me-stand-in before
