Description Well alot of my "drop ship" designs are based on the AWESOME design of the drop ship from the movie "ALIENS" which were designed by James Cameron, and i believe Syd Mead ( [link] ).
I always had in mind ships that looked like "bladeless" Helicopters produced by the Hughes Corporation, but Cameron beat me to the punch (I had a design of a LARGER version, called a "Razorback", but the large illustration and sketches were lost and i only have "top action views" in a comic book story i abandoned years ago, but was originally for the Anime/Manga story that involved the "Unicorn" mech-Also, i forgot to mention, that the Razorbacks were big enough to carry 2 armoured vehicles).
This version i made for a Video Game project i worked on for a short time, which was shelved. But i like this drawing alot and its more of a "Tank Buster" than a drop ship, being that its smaller than my other designs, and more like a Huey Cobra with wings and VTOL engines on its tips with Vertical exhaust ports in the under carriage. This vehicle carries alot of Ordnance as well for busting up Armoured vehicles and Mech. Drawn with a Mechanical 0.5 pencil as my usual weapon of choice.

I love pencil designs, and yours are brilliant! I stopped doodling myself in school, sadly. But you're inspiring!

That drop ship is one helluva na inspiration to artists everywhere, and this really does have that same feel to it. It looks like it would have fit in rather well during the Vietnam war, if technology had advanced to such a degree, but not design-wise to seem too out of place.

WOW!!!!!!! IM AMAZED!!!! when did that game start!? . . . its like a close friend of mine whos "highschool" designs over 15 years ago-people thought HE designed the soldier armour in "HALO" and the "octopus robots" in "the Matrix", he has tons of boxes of sketches and ive seen the dates on the drawings. You never know if its "coincedence" or "plagerism", its the SAD truth. Its the nature of the beast when you let people see your work or send out portfolios to potential jobs, COPYRIGHT your stuff!!! Thats another reason im honest about my influences and give links when i can find them, but i definatly dont out-right "RIP OFF" images . . . man, dont get me started.

to be more descriptive about it, yours looks like a much slimmer

version of the galaxy with more guns...

also in the game it is a high capacity troop transport

the galaxy is also a bit more angular

Hehe- well i have soooooooooooo many "Airplanes in my head" it could come from ANYWHERE. Its always good to look at the PAST for influences, i've been a "Warbird" fan since i was a kid. And the Luftwaffe had some "wierd" designs too, but history as well as the new technology and your imagination will all help in making your ideas become reality. Most of the time it seems, im very disappointed in designs in Sci-fi, too many "boxy" designs, and bland colours, unless they are meant to be "camoflauged" as in being "concealed". Anyways- history and imagination should make things more interesting- but "stretch" the ideas and bounderies . . . thats just me.
See Artists: Chris Foss ( [link] ), Jim Burns ( [link] ), Syd Mead ( [link] ), James Clyne ( [link] ), Feng Zhu ( [link] ), Ryan Church ( [link] ), Doug Chiang ( [link] ), Ralph McQuarrie ( [link] )- small examples of GREAT designs, unfortunatly there are no sites for Director/illustrator Joe Johnston and the great Ron Cobb (ALIEN).
