Description For this week, here's some sprite edits, this time of Roserade, the Bouquet Pokemon! Every time I did one of these before, people would always comment about how they wanted to see her bigger, so this time I made her bigger before hand. Then I made her even bigger. And then I made her bigger one more time for good measure (and before you ask, no, I'm stopping there). Anyway, I hope you guys like it, and I'll see you later!

Oh, thank you! always nice hearing that people notice stuff like that

I gotta say I'm quite fond of these PokΓ©mon species sprite edits. Not just because of the expanded shapes, but it looks almost seamless when compared to the original sprite.

Thanks! I'm glad I was able to make the transition look natural here in particular, I wasn't sure if it would work with how her pose shifts as she grows.

GravityInbound In reply to Max-Digital [2017-05-18 12:13:37 +0000 UTC]

I can see how it would look tricky given the pose, but I think you did well! It's even the smaller details like the replicated line weight and her left arm pressing into her belly in the larger sizes that help make it look more convincing.

Thank you! It's nice to know that little details like that don't go completely unnoticed.

Hmm... Maybe. I think it would probably boost her base hp more though, at the cost of pretty much all her speed of course.

ChupiTrooper In reply to Max-Digital [2017-03-13 01:55:31 +0000 UTC]

She'd basically need as much as she can get given all the Mega Salamence and Primal Groudon in the metagame these days.
Or maybe it'll just make her cuter, if anything.

Yeah, nothing wrong with a cute pokemon that isn't suited for battling. Especially if it's this kind of cute.

ChupiTrooper In reply to Max-Digital [2017-03-13 12:04:58 +0000 UTC]

Though, to be fair, there are a lot of adorable 'Mons out there that can really duke it out with the more intimidating ones. For example, Alomomola's got a massive HP stat and Regenerator, making it a great wall that can pass Wish to its teammates. Then there's Azumarill, who boasts Huge Power and access to Belly Drum, Aqua Jet, and Play Rough, among other neat physical moves. There's also Jirachi and Blissey, and I don't think I have to explain anything to show that they're competitive beasts. And then there's Mimikyu. Enough said.
I know I sound like I might be droning on with this, but you haven't seen true astonishment until you've been on Battle Spot or Smogon Showdown for at least five minutes.

Honestly, I've never touched competitive pokemon battling in my life. The idea of building an actual team for it kind of scares me...

Ah, it's not that hard when you get down to it. But if you feel like it's intimidating, that's fine.
I just really love how soft you've made one of my favorite Gen 4 'Mons here. Hope to see more like this sometime.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

ReiZeroGhost [2016-12-05 14:01:40 +0000 UTC]

Oh, this is early! Monday technically, but earlier than usual.

Is this what you meant by "being outside my comfort zone"? (Or whatever the exact words were.)
Cuz heck, I could try animating something with these. I guess Roserade's not too bad. Maybe not super right away like I did with Lyra. I just have that other animation I gotta focus on. But we'll see.
Anyway, I wouldn't mind seeing Gardevoir's battle sprites like this too. Y'know, if you want. (Though if you were to do Gardevoir, I'd still prefer the HGSS overworld sprites like my earlier suggestion.)

Come to think of it, have you ever thought of using trainer sprites, too? I totally get that these types of sprites may be way too complicated though, but just wondering.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Max-Digital In reply to ReiZeroGhost [2016-12-05 14:28:43 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I couldn't help but post it a little early

I thought maybe you could animate these to use in something like an actual pokemon battle, but I have no idea what that would be like compared to your normal animations. Also, originally this was going to be Gardevoir, but no matter what I tried, I couldn't figure out how to work around that dress. Overworld sprites shouldn't be a problem with her though.
I did try editing trainer sprites like this a long time ago. I couldn't really make anything good then, but I'm sure I'd be able to now if people want to see stuff like that.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ReiZeroGhost In reply to Max-Digital [2016-12-05 14:50:34 +0000 UTC]

Ah dang, you attempted Gardevoir already? If you made Gardevoir as well, I could probably try to set up a Pokemon battle with these two. I guess I could try using something else like those Meloetta sprites you did a while ago, or whoever else I may be forgetting. Oh yeah, that's an interesting idea by the way. A battle would be a nice change of pace from what I usually do. I guess Roserade would be using a form of Growth. (Though maybe it's more like Stockpile, hyeh hyeh.) Gardevoir or Meloetta I'm not sure really use any kind of stat boosting move that's particularly physical. I could just make the excuse of saying they're "special event" Pokemon, which usually have moves outside their normal moveset.
If you wanted to try Gardevoir again, let's see. To start off, you know how the dress is structured, right? I'm sure you do, but it's basically divided into six parts halfway down. Uh, I'm not really sure what other kind of advice I could give though, or what to even do with that information. Oh, maybe try doing stuff without the dress first, then add it in later. I dunno. I could probably take a crack at it myself, maybe even using these Roserade sprites as a base or reference. Might not be in the foreseeable future though. We'll see.

Anyway, I'll probably at the very least just make a thing with just Roserade here, as a battle might be a bit complicated. (I'll wait til you fix it though.) If I were to make one though, both Pokemon would use their front-facing sprites and they'll just be on opposite ends of the screen. So no need to worry about any back sprites or anything.

I also wouldn't mind seeing trainer stuff, but as a sprite animator, I'm not sure if I'd be able to use them for most situations.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Max-Digital In reply to ReiZeroGhost [2016-12-05 15:51:23 +0000 UTC]

The main problem I was having with Gardevoir is that her dress completely covers her entire lower body, so my usual method of taking what's already there and expanding on it doesn't really work. I'd have to draw the body and pose from scratch, and I couldn't figure that out.

Moving on though, I figured Roserade could have used something like growth or stockpile to end up like this. She also might have been given an abnormal ability somehow, maybe something like thick fat or water absorb. I'm not sure how well a battle would look though if both pokemon were facing the camera.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ReiZeroGhost In reply to Max-Digital [2016-12-05 16:54:01 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, Gardevoir does technically seem to have pretty limited anatomy. I guess we just gotta sorta imagine what's under the dress. Though I'm sure people have extracted some 3D models and removed the dress somehow by now. I might even look into that myself.

And don't worry about how the battle would look, I've got it figured out. But basically, they'd be on a 2D plane instead of it being from one corner to the opposite. I hope that makes sense.
Also I guess I could also just make the battle be Roserade vs. another Roserade, I dunno. That seem kinda boring though. Well, not like I can't make multiple battles.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Max-Digital In reply to ReiZeroGhost [2016-12-05 17:13:54 +0000 UTC]

Well, you don't have to have both of the pokemon battling inflate. One idea I had was Roserade fighting a Vaporeon, and the Vaporeon using skill swap to give Roserade water absorb. Not sure why Vaporeon would do that, but you get the idea.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ReiZeroGhost In reply to Max-Digital [2016-12-05 21:34:25 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah good point, I guess only really at least one of them needs to. I sorta just wanted them both to though, but I guess it's not necessary.
Well, it may be a while before I get around to animating a Pokemon battle kinda thing anyway, so I guess I'll figure out the details when the time comes. I would need to worry about getting assets for everything else first anyway. Battle backgrounds, attack animations, HP meter, text box. I'm sure those would be simple enough, but finding the right font to use might be trickier. Or easier than I think, I dunno. I also gotta think of how the entire battle will go overall as well. I can't just have it be "yup Roserade inflates the end lol," or at least maybe not have an abrupt end.
But for now, I might just do something simple with Roserade first, similar to Lyra.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Max-Digital In reply to ReiZeroGhost [2016-12-05 21:59:17 +0000 UTC]

Hmm... I'm not sure about the details, but maybe the battle could end with the trainer catching Roserade and her data being added to the pokedex, after she's been blimped up of course.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ReiZeroGhost In reply to Max-Digital [2016-12-06 09:26:37 +0000 UTC]

Oh I was thinking it would be trainer vs. trainer. I guess it could be wild, but I'll figure that out later.
And looks like you fixed up the sprites. I'll go ahead and hold onto these now.
