Although I find the winged manticore design very cool, manticore are often portrayed without wings in ancient representations, so I decided to replace them by a pair of huge pincers.Related content

Ah I don't think that will be possible, since there never was lineart on this one, that means I would have to totally redraw it ^^.

My first encounter with manticore was in Heroes of Might and Magic 3, so I thought they must have lion heads but learned much later they are supposed to have human-featured face, which makes them much more scary I think.
Haven't heard about wingless before. Those pincers are certainly great idea.

Now that's one awesome Manitcore. Going with the pincers instead of the wings was a good choice as it makes the creature look even more menacing.

nice work, i love creatures of legend and this one is great, it feels more legendary and original rather than looking like a lion which is a refreshing change. I'm curious though what made you want to paint a manticor?

Well, I didn't do some classic fantasy for a while and that was the occasion to change a little from my more "anime-like" style. I wanted to fo some representations of mythological beasts and I founded that the manticore wasn't so often depicted although the design was pretty interesting.

I remember reading about these things when I was a kid. This is a great representation of what I imagined.

I love everything about the head, and there's a neat resemblance between the mane and the tail. The pincers look a bit stuck-on, but they fit better than a pair of wings. Manticores are my favorite mythological beast.
