There are three types of illumination (AFAICR) - "normal", where the ambient light is fairly constant, and Dark- and Light-field illumination.

In "normal" illumination, there is light on the background, where there MAY be an image or colour, and there MAY be shadow either from the object or from how the lighting reflects off the background. Some of the background light illuminates the object.

Take a look at any Dorling Kindersley book - all the photographs look like they have been taken on white backgrounds. The background needs to be (old f*rt moment) 1.3x (I THINK) lighter than the light falling on the object. Dark-field illumination is the opposite - the background is black. In both, there is minimal or no shadow, and the focus is on the object (ie. no background other than white or black). Hope this helps!

Yeah - bit odd!

Bought from local toy shop.

I was trying to get the colours to all run into each other in a full circle....need to tidy it up in photoshop I think to make it look seamless.
