Description
So yeah, I wanted to try to draw in a more simplified style (mostly simpler shadows, no gradients unless really necessary etc.), as my usual one is becoming a bit unwieldy, both in terms of effort and strain on the computer ^__^In fact I tried to do that with the last picture as well, but failed, so to speak. I mean it did turn out to be one of my best, if I do say so myself, but it's anything but simple...

Just to put it out there it's cool to try out different things but I think what makes your artwork stand out from other people's is the huge amount of detail. Like the really little details, like potato chips and meticulously put together outfits and what not. So even in experimenting, be careful not to lose what makes your artwork special.
That being said, I like this picture, and the pose and the feeling. But I agree that the background seems empty and lacking.

That actually makes a lot of sense,
>> be careful not to lose what makes your artwork special
yeah, I can see how that can be a problem, wise advice, thanks. I do like the little details too, whitch is why I tend to draw it.

from experience that is not a comfortable position to be in i.e. blood rushing to head, crick in neck .etc. I like it but it looks 'incomplete' compared to your other stuff though I can understand you wanting to simplify o_0 if I ever put that much work into one of my pieces I'd have to kill myself. I think Shwina has socks like those btw 6_6' anyway... I'm not sure what I think about the bg

Yeah, I guess I really need to try to fing a way to draw sompler, rather then half-assed. I've seen a lot of simple pictures that are very good ;__;

maybe a different style? i.e. no backgrounds? or simple frames? I dunno... I'm not sure if my style would be called simple but I'm of the mindset that less is less and more is not enough 6_6' so maybe not the best advice...

I mean something like ([link] ) although, I guess that's not that simple if you really look at it, maybe I shouldn't fight it...

well, see that pic is simpler in the sense that it's a close-up, there's no real posing and no real bg. so yeah... would that count as "style" or just "subject"? I dunno. But the colouring seems simpler too i.e. just brushing/shading rather than vectors?

Yeah... I don't really know if that is easier to draw then mine... But what about ([link] ) it is quite simple, but the faces are so expresive, not like mine ;__;
P.S.
Stupid DA, messing up the nesting of comments...

lol that is like super simple and seems more like a spur of the moment comic sketch thing rather than a completed piece. Well... like I said, maybe less backgrounds and focus more on faces and the person?

Yeah, I kind of wish i could do spur of the moment stuff, but I always overcomplicate things ;__;

lol maybe set a time limit for yourself? When I get back we have to get together and have an art day. It's weird but we still haven't done but I guess it's because you insist you can't draw with pencil lol

Oh, I can draw with apencil, I just don't like people watching me do it, is all. I make a lot of disturbingly UGLY mistakes and backtrack a lot, so yeah. But sure we can do that when you return.

me too ): I mean, even though I usually draw with a pencil I feel like I spend more time erasing than actually drawing anything so yeah... no worries. I'm sure it's the same for a lot of people.

It is the disturbing ugliness of intermediate picture that concerns me, It's like baby pictures...

yeah, that's why I call it "sketching" it's all the pre-actual-art stuff lol I mean, I intend to EVENTUALLY use the sketches for paintings or penning the line art. But still, I never use it the way I first draw it, I always scan and adjust, move, shrink, stretch, etc. things before doing the "good copy" as it were 6_6U

I find it distressing, how you can't like, enlarge the head or make it smaller at will, you have to erase a lot of stuff to correct these things. Too bad I don't have a usable scanner, otherwise I'd upload some sketches that are sort of passable.

I don't have a digital camera either, and I wouldn't know how to connect it to a computer anyway, all that fancy technology you kids use these days is Greek to me...
