-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Earlier this year I took up bellydancing, and I adore the slinky movements and the exotic clothing and jewelry dancers wear. The pose for this drawing is based on a photograph of the amazing Rachel Brice [link] and I exaggerated the hands and arms a little.
The idea to have the figure 'blacked out' with bright tattoos was partly inspired by the opening sequence to the anime series Red Garden, which is just a beautiful piece of animation. [link]

I originally drew this on paper, but after a couple of attempts with the colour just going wrong on me, I scanned it in and ended up redrawing the entire piece in Photoshop. It took a loooooong time, but yesterday I decided to sit down and finish the damn thing no matter what. I'm sure I could have kept on fiddling around with it forever if I let myself.

EDIT: Re-uploaded the image after I saw it on my boyfriend's monitor and it had a horrible pinkish shadow in the background (it all looked perfectly white on mine, grr). Should look better now.

What a gorgeous, striking image. The "blacked out" look really pays off in bringing out the colorful details. Great work!

I love the way you captured the movement of her body Although I'm not going to lie, in both this one and the tiger I want there to be a background- ultra simple, but something other than white... sky blue for her and then lightish orange for the tiger.... but still, beautiful I faved them both

Thank you!

You're so right, I really need to start adding backgrounds. Often I just can't decide what to add. I like your idea of the sky blue, I may well try that! For the jungle cat, I want to have him in a simple jungle background of similar greens, need to try it out. If/when I update them I'll post them back up here, I'd love to hear your thoughts when I do.

It's beautiful, Abby! I'm so glad you finished it I agree with other people, the flow is nice and it's easy to imagine her dancing. I admire your skill to show so much with such simple shapes.

For a moment, it reminded me of work of a make-up artist: [link]

Love this! Easy to see the motion in it and imagine her dancing on. Would make a killer tattoo if the artist could get the textures in those grays just right. Cheers!
