~Character design for Angel from Maximum Ride (books 1 through 3) (for Maximum Ride: The Animated series)These "scenes" or "poses" [whatever] are gathered mainly from book 1 when the Flock is in New York and when Angel had been kidnapped and taken back to the School.
Angel (in this design) is a recombinant of 2% Swan.
Fair skin, Blonde hair, blue eyes
About 4 ft (121.92 cm) tall.
6 years old
Wingspan is 8ft.
The Gasman/Gazzy is her biological older brother (by 2 years).
Abilities: (books 1-3) Mind reading, mind control.
Rank in the Flock: Though she is the youngest (the baby), she is the most informed. She is highly intelligent compared to the others though not as strong as Max or Fang.

ahhhah, man i still can't believe what they pulled with angel in the books. she was literally a deus ex machina in every aspect. oh she suddenly reads minds and controls people! oh she suddenly talks to fish and breathes underwater! oh she suddenly changes her entire form! oh now she's the voice! oh suddenly she knows every single thing and has turned evil twelve times over- i just. you drew her adorably, but oh my god she is an insufferable character in the series. she could've been a great character, but instead she wasn't. ugh. orz but on the picture itself, she doesn't really look six in the image. you sorta made her face too mature, and limbs too long- and her wings look a little oddly shaped for a swan! like the "arms" look too short, and the feathers too pointed, in respects to this. sorry if this comment is kinda out of the blue and stuff i just thought i'd sorta toss in my two cents. o/ sooo yeah //scurries off

I know right? They made Angel a Mary-Sue in every way, shape and form, didn't they? She didn't have any flaws whatsoever. Or they at least weren't noticeable.

And that is why I only enjoy rereading the first 3 books.
In regards to the design, I believe it's quite accurate to how she was described in the first 3 books. Angel may be a 6 year old, but becuase she's a mutant, she looked a bit older. All the characters did. Also all the characters were described to lean, having little to no body fat. In book 2, Max described the flock to look similar to Olympic swimmers (only taller and leaner).
It depends on which angle I was going for that feathers look a bit pointed. I did use a reference and I have enough experience that the feathers are accurate. However, I'm not sure if you were referring to the smaller sketch or to the big one, but i do think the primaries on the big one were closer to a falcon's than swan's.
Other than that, Angel is quite proportionally correct for her mutant bird-kid self. Thanks for the critique though. ^^

Well what I mean is that Max had a tendency to exaggerate, and I yeah, I know the kids were described to be fit, but that'd just make them thin, not old? Although I still stand by what I said, Angel looks closer to twelve in this image, and even if they appear aged up, I don't think they were given the same growth spurt that Ari was put through. But then again what they did to Ari was insane, too. I suppose this is just me nitpicking, but like even when they allegedly grew up a year we aren't given many drastic changes in way of description- in fact a complete description is given maybe, what, twice in the entire series? Including wing details? And even then they were inconsistent- so I guess I'm kinda just ranting about how badly JP botched his own story... Bluh sorry my comment is all jumbled and rambling I just have a huge sense of betrayal towards JP and what he did to the kids... orz

Ja, I agree. Jp did not do the story or characters much justice after the first 3 books. I found out that the series was split in 2 categories: "The Fugitives" and "The Heroes."Β

Agh noooo, you can't trust the wiki to get it right. D; Half the information is garbled and in middle schooler speech- not to mention I'm pretty sure on Iggy's page they have fanart as an example... I'm 21 and I'm barely 5'2" everyone confuses me for 12- but what they did to Ari just wasn't right. Isn't he supposed to be like 7?? But he was physically aged up to that of a body building old guy?
(And yeah I can guess; I really wish JP had stayed true to the original storyline rather than... whatever it was he did.)

If it gets jumbled or trolled, somebody always goes in and corrects it. Besides I read the entire thing thoroughly and I've concluded form all the times I've read and reread the books the info is legitimate.Β
Even though not all the info is direct in the books, a reader can think and pick up bits of information that add up to a full character description. That's also what i did.

Info is so jumbled in the books, though, and I will never trust the wiki with the information. orz I agree things can be picked up on here and there, but it's so rare and far between (as well as inconsistent) that it's just kinda "what?? what's going on?" and guh. And I'm not saying what you did was wrong- I actually hoped to see you sort of redo the flock your own unique way, cuz I really do like your art style- but I was just trying to point out that Angel looked a little older than was probably expected, and looking through your art I see you tend to stick to older characters normally, so stepping out of one's comfort zone is always important and I'm probably sounding like a broken record here, so I'll just stop nagging you asdfk.

I was wondering if u can explain this. How do they get there wings out of the back of the coats and shirts. Do they have to cut holes in the back?Β

Yes. I imagine that they'd have to cut large enough slits in the clothes for the wings to slip in and out. And the clothes would have to be rather large or baggy enough to hide the wings even when their wings are pulled in super tight.

I'd say they were. Well what isn't obvious fanservice (its a bunch of teenage girls who are sometimes with animal ears and tails for some reason flying around in what effectivly the nosecones of prop aircraft of WWII vintage fighting biomechanical spaceships...panty shots galore).Β
But yeah the flight scenes are really well done.
