Absolutely brilliant shot. Love these birds... even if they did partially destroy my tent in Arthurs Pass. Congrats on the DD! You deserve it

Great! This is such a perfect profile that it seems that the bird knew what you were doing and actually posed for you.
(Considering the kea is one of the smartest birds on the planet, Β it may well have done exactly that!)
(Did it make any suggestions regarding what lens or shutter speed you should use? )Β

Such a gorgeous photo! I really like the light, the colours, the composition and how the kea is blending into its environment.
The only "bad" thing is that we don't get to see the lovely red feathers it's got under its wings (so cool), but that's because it's sitting down peacefully so it has no reason to show of the inside of its wings, I guess. It would have made a really spectacular photo against all that green though. I've only seen keas on TV, but I'd really love to see one IRL one day.

Thank you so much! You get an idea of how they would blend in in the wild
And yeah I know, that would have been an awesome shot but he didn't want to open his wings for me...Β Β hahaha
They really are beautiful birds, they are really big and really intelligent/inquisitive too Β Β

We have a lot of unique animal/plant life. Before the European came there were no mammals or predators here because we are so far away from other countries and separated off from other countries early on. So we have/had a lot of unique animals found nowhere else and lots of them are defenseless from those introduced animals so they are being wiped out Like the kiwi is easy prey for introduced mammals because they didn't develop any defenses to protect them because they didn't need to if that makes sense?Β Β hahah
