Description ok... this one from a series im doing for my photo class final project... my idea is to represent aspects of the male/ female relationship in the style of paintings by renee magritte (surrealist with lots of symbolism)...

now... i need your help... i have to do about 10-12 prints and i only have about 6 or 7 good ones that are at least somewhat different right now... who's got some ideas?? im in a mental rut right now and any ideas/suggestions would be super helpful... just to get the ball rolling here.. im short on time... .

im also doing some based on magritte's series titled the lovers... two lovers are cloaked in white fabric while embracing and kissing...

after that, im stumped...

p.s.-- any critiques on this piece are greatly appreciated

It seems as if the man whose showing his back is actually dead and that the lady sitting on a chair with her umbrella is looking towards and invisible (dead) man in his memory..something like that..sounds a little odd desn't it ?..

i like..very simple yet expressive. im not shure, what her facial expression is implying..
> i dont know if your still working on your project but..maybe you can show them interacting somehow. For example in my experiences.. i have trouble comunicating with the opposite sex..usually because of mis-interpetation (on the male side*). if you could represent that in a photograph, that would be powerful...and im shure, challenging.*

thanks... yea actually that shot was VERY preliminary... later on i did some better shoots and teh final product came out in a 10 shot series (and they interact more, too...)

thanks for your great comment!

the setting of the figures and everything works greatly in this piece. but as far as magritte goes, you might want to invest in more of an outlandish enviroment for the figures to interact, where it seems more composed than natural.

in my opinion, you captured the magritte style very well... those men in tuxedos and with hats are very typical
i don't think the way it turned out symbolizes surrealism too much but it's a beautiful shot for sure and i hope that it turned out like you wanted it to

Awesome idea..

Honestly, it would be a fav if it was lighter and I could make out more detail. Also, I would move the male more into the frame. It seems a little unbalanced to me. There is more space between the woman and the frame, and the man and the frame. I can't pick exactly WHAT it is that doesn't sit right with me.. it just does. And it's something about where he is in the frame

Lovelovelove the texture of the bricks and the gritty ground though, and her pose with the umbrella

thsi really is a great shot... as for ideas... i submit to you a peice that i did where everyone thought i got my inspiration from magritte... but i had never heard of him until then! check it out, maybe it'll inspire you! [link]

one thing that might be neat would be to replicate his peice "La Grande Guerre" by using something stuck into the apple and then put it in your model's mouth... giving the appearance that it it floating in front of his head! that would be super cool! reference: [link] (i don't know what you could do about a background though... it's more of a studio shot)

that's all i have for today!

peace-out!

This is amazing! Real magritte style I like! Cover a guys face with a watermelon.. almost like an apple but it isn't ^^;; I'm sorry.. I'm clueless also... Put someones head in a paper bag? or or.. umm. crap I dunno.. umm... maybe have someone holding a woman in front of his face?
bah.. I stink! lol!

Great shot tho!

Maybe you could do something with a woman smoking a pipe while the man is washing dishes ? hehe
Just a suggestion but I think the pipe is also something that was painted by Magritte right ?

This isn't a pipe, it's what's on a piece of art by Magrite, do that one
