one of the best portraits i have seen here on DA. His wrinkles are pages of an extremely long novel.

Wow I love this! The texture of his skin make me think of leather, it make me just want to rub my hand on his face. The shadows that the wrinkles make contrast very nicely with the rest of his face. The clarity of this shot is unbelievable! +FAV!

It is obvious that you have a great zoom lens Amazing detail, amazing lighting, amazing model. Amazing work. I particulary like the way the sunlight (is that sunlight?) accentuates every single detail of the old man's face. He looks really sober and wise, just like the title suggests. You can see that this man has lived a full life, and now, aged and full of wisdom and thoughts, he shares himslef with the world. Really emotional and amaing picture, and yet so simple..

I had missed this in my watch "on the way through" so I am SOOOOOOO glad I've found it now.
This is just such an amazing development - can I assume you sweat the development of this? I just mixed my most hardcore greyscale development yet, and I look at this and am STUNNED. The balance of detail against the highlights, and the quality of shadow exposure is awesome.
Your angle and focus, and his expression and visage are perfect. His intensity and presence-of-mind are so riveting.
The glasses, incidentally, are entirely right and positive, both symbolically and for the extra shadows cast across his face.
I have a personal metaphor that feels illustrated here. (I.e., this isn't objective, it's subjective.) It's that in the stress of life sometimes I feel as a blast of hot air is blowing across my face - I call it "facing into the blast furnace." And I grit my teeth and try to imagine bearing that, and even imagining that blast of air as enriching, the sensual feel on my face. Your composition and his expression connote that to me, as if merely his presence of mind against all he's faced and facing is exactly why he's lived this long and accumulate all his fortitude.
So this really speaks to me, emotionally, and, again, stuns me photographically. Just awesome altogether. It's thrilling to see a portrait image so unusual and exquisite as this.

This is a really great portrait shot. I like the use of space and how the face is cropped in an odd way. It really brings the focus right in on the eyes, nose and mouth and accentuates the shadows on the face. You have captured so much personality in this shot with the use of dramatic lighting, interesting composition and chosing person with very distinguishing facial features. This one really seems to want to tell a story. Outstanding work.

Wonderfully well-taken and well-composed shot. The clarity in addition to the feel of black & white photography makes this picture of an otherwise normal man something extraordinary! Well done!
P.S. I've got an edited version of this as my wallpaper back in my dorm (I just scaled it to fit my desktop and added a black background to fill in the empty space)

Gorgeous portrait shot - I'm jealous
I'm a big fan of shots like this - you've used a great light source, just look at all the features and detail that has been brought out in the face! The way the light brings out the curves, lines, hair and breaks through the glasses is unreal.
There is something magical about this photo - it has the power to bring a smile to anyones face!

i don't really like the glasses, i think they are too modern for your title... of course a name of the rose -style thing would be stupid too, so nevermind...
did you mask the background? there are some strange outlines...
