Description
A glimpse of a peculiar type B Limen layer that had taken a form loosely evocative of World War I battlefield.
Rather infamous for frequently bleeding into the other layers, with entry gateways manifesting as large explosion craters.
Constantly enshrouded in dusty fog, its soil is covered in ash and rubble, ruins of unidentifiable structures loom in a distance, and countless discarded war machines are dotting the landscape. Jagged, rusty and imposing, they can elicit an immediate sense of dread in any visitor – yet at the same time, anyone even remotely familiar with engineering would be stricken by the sheer absurdity of their design: their scale is often absolutely off compared to their Prime World counterparts, their insides are nothing but an incoherent mess of gears and pistons, and they can often be seen merged with surrounding ruins and other features of the landscape. In addition, their placement doesn’t seem to follow any sort of logic – planes and dreadnoughts can be found half-buried in the soil right besides tanks and other armored vehicles.
Echoing sounds of explosions and gunfire can be often heard from a distance without any specific source, while numerous trenches carve through the land, filled with the mixture of blood and mud that seems to flow directly from earth. A variety of creatures were observed dwelling there, feasting on this putrescent cocktail: dull moths larvae, numerous maggot-like organisms and gargantuan trenchcrawlers – massive polychaete worms endemic to this layer, with bodies large enough to fill the entire ditch.
Whisperers with characteristic face plates resembling gasmasks (instead of the typical "smiley faces") had been seen on multiple occasions, emitting sounds reminiscent of distorted radio transmissions.
And at least in some regions, nomadic nestlings had been observed foraging for resources, likely the members of the stray colony that dwells somewhere is this layer. Curiously, a common practice amongst them is to use the aforementioned war machines for shelter – an ironic and honestly somewhat wholesome thing, considering how antithetical it is to their original purpose as the tools of destructions. Many are even known to decorate their tank houses from the inside: while rearrangement waves would often reposition them and reshape the surrounding terrain, they would usually leave the interiors intact (especially if there is anyone inside at the moment).
