Destroying the tower would have been a good idea as long as they would be able to take down Cinder and the dragon with it. with the dragon gone they could just rebuild it without the grimm getting in the way.

Destiny schmestiny!  Anything really worth fighting for, is worth fighting dirty for.  Should have given Cinder a taste of her own medicine, like shown here.

In my mind, I imagined Ironwood could have placed C4 around the base of the tower and just Kiritsugued/Dresdened the entire building.

The problem with that explosive plan is the tower is part of the only working long-range communication system on Remnant.  Now that it is gone, scrolls don't work long-distance, worldwide tv news is cut off, long-range military comms don't work, and the kingdoms can't talk to each other.  The kingdoms can't coordinate counter-Grimm or refugee relief efforts, huntsman can't work together as well, and the last thing everyone saw on tv before they cut out was Vale going to hell and Atlas robots killing innocents.  It's a nightmare scenario, and sans Ruby's eye explosion freezing the Grimm dragon, Cinder and Salem's plans have succeeded almost perfectly.

Honestly, I would have considered the tower a lost cause at the point. Even if you do manage to overpower Cinder, she still would have had enough power to destroy the tower out of spite before she died. No point in sacrificing soldiers needlessly so better to just cut your losses. They do have advanced means of travel like planes so I doubt it's the end of the world. At worst, communications would be delayed rather than cut off completely.

I agree that the tower probably was a lost cause at that point, and they do have planes.  But a plane isn't going to be ready to go whenever an average joe or jane wants to find out if their relatives who went to the Vytal festival are even still alive.  Necessities are going to become scarce, people are gonna get desperate, things are just going to get a lot worse for a long time before they get better on Remnant I think.  I rather wish Pyrrha had just followed Ozpin's instructions of getting help instead of thinking "destiny or death."

Pyrrha:  Jaune, I want you to get in that locker and allow me to fight that super powerful god Cinder all by myself.
Jaune:  I don't know, Pyrrha.  Don't you think we should, I don't know, call everybody else?  Charge at Cinder with an entire army of students from every kingdom with incredible powers, weapons, and out number Cinder a million to one?
Pyrrha:  Oh my Oum, you're right, Jaune!  I think I hit my head when we were getting out of there or something.  What was I thinking!?

I feel the need to point out that Pyrrha didn't exactly have a lot of time to think that over and was just a student. Hindsight is 20:20 xD
