BAT FACT: Mother bats are devoted to their young. One indication of this is a mother bat's uncanny ability to find and recognize her own baby. The precision of this relationship ensured that female bats do not give milk to other bats' babies. The challenge differs between species. Red and Hoary Bats, and other species that roost alone, need only remember where they left their babies. Since the females roost alone with their young there is little chance of mistaken identity.
