Description
That one is a little complicated. Encouraged by I decided to put some Christian art. This is the key of David. In the Bible, God says about the Christ: ' I shall put on his shoulder the key of the house of David. What He opens, no one can shut, and what He shuts no one can open.' (Isaiah 22.22)
So I decided to draw this 'key of David'. It is a symbol of what Jesus can do, the things that are impossible for us to do, he can do. And it also symbolises the opportunities that are in God's hands when we entrust our destinies into his hands.
-For those wondering, yes, I did take inspiration from the Kingdom hearts keyblade 'oathkeeper'-
Now for some explanation: of course the star symbolises King David, of whom Jesus-Christ is descended (the key of the house of David). But you can also see the three nails used to crucify Jesus. The middle nail has a drop of blood falling in-between two cherubs: it symbolises the sacrifice for the remission of sins of the whole people when some blood was sprinkled on the lid of the covenant box (where two cherubs were joining wings).
Of course you can recognize on both sides of the handgrip the thorns used to crown Jesus and the cross. The handgrip is the book sealed with seven seals from the book of revelation. Also notice the poster in the bottom where the word 'king' is written in Latin (INRI= Iesus Nazarenus Iudaeorum Rex = Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews); Hebrew letters (Melech), and Greek (Basileus), like it happened in the Gospel.
Last but not least, the end of the key is a loose chain: it is the chain of sin that opens with Jesus Christ to set the prisonners free! (Trivia, but authentic and totally non-prepared, as I am writing this, my Ipod is playing a song saying "there is power in the name of Jesus to break every chain", nice, isn't it?)
God bless you!
PS: just did a colored version of that. You should go check it out here [link]

Actually I think more of Jesus than David, after all He's called "son of David", and the scripture it's taken from talks about the messiah carrying this key on his shoulder. Strange because the only thing I see Jesus carrying on his shoulder is that heavy cross. So His death on the cross is like 'the key' to open paradise...
Does it make sense?

I agree with you. Jesus had given us the best 'key' to us all~!!
Just have a quick thought that if David or other characters in Bible illustrated with special designed weapons and power effects from God. It's like fantasy scenes but with bible story in there, haha...

Yeah! That would be fun!
When I draw Samson to children I always make him look frail; and as they were exprecting some kind of Scharzenegger, they ask me "but how come he was so strong!?" That's where I tell them that his power came from God!
^^
Trivia: apparently david's star is actually two "D" (as in DaviD) in old hebrew writing. He would have created this sign by embedding together these two letters (Daleth in hebrew) on his shield as they were the beginning

Haha...I would imagine too Samson was like that kind of body image, but of course it's great to show that God has nothing impossible for us!
This is the first I heard about David's star, thanks for the info~!! ^^

I think this is awesome! with your permeation, may i color this in pant? I wont post it anywhere i promise! oh on a said note, did you intentionally mack the pummel look like the hilt of a sword, or is that just me?

Maybeimalion7 In reply to GabrielWhitewolf [2012-09-03 17:30:51 +0000 UTC]
Hey there! No problem, you can color it. I'm going to check if I enabled the download button. Just send me the picture of the finished work, I'll be glad to see it.
For the hilt, yes you're right, it kinda looks like a sword. As I said, it's a concept of key they used in 'kingdom hearts', where they use big keys like swords, and there are lots of different ones. But it reminded me of this 'key of David' and I wanted to draw it with the same concept, but with my own imagination. So yes, it kinda looks like a sword grip and hilt...
And by the way, thanks for the comment! ^_^
