Day 26 - Hide

I was originally going to go in a completely different direction for this, but I figured if I was uninspired to draw it then no one would be inspired to look at it (such as yesterday's piece). I also really wanted an excuse to try this background wash, and since Sam spent five years hiding from the Senate (three of which were spent freezing on a mountain), ice and frost seemed appropriate.

I threw in a little bit of a salt wash because I can't help myself, but for the most part the texture is from putting cling wrap on the paper and then scrunching it up a little and letting it dry. On the one hand it's not as obvious as I was aiming for, but on the other hand I feel like that works better. There's a weird texture variation in person I'm actually in love with (it's shinier where it's flat but matte in the 'cracks').

I don't like drawing Sam (or any of the characters, really) vulnerable like this. I like showing them off when they're at their peaks, or at least during a standard day. But a lot happens to them through the book, to all of them, and there are times when they are low. I can write it, because even at their lowest you can feel their strength through it. I can't portray that in a drawing. Not yet.

WOOOO I DIDN'T HAVE TO DO ANY WHITE INK CORRECTION IN THIS ONE! Everything behaved!

Done with Marabu Aqua Ink (oh, plagues, we're using cool colours again), the Drawing nib (I sucked it up and used one of the ones I like the least and learned that it's not bad for drawing - who knew? - though I despise it for writing), and a foot of cling wrap I totally didn't steal from work (I'm sure I've more than made up for it through all for the packing tape I've *ahem* "recycled" for them at this point).
