Description As happens with many of my drawings, this one was unplanned: I started drawing lines and shapes without any idea of what would come up. I often daydream that I am in this island, all alone, and discover some of the secrets beneath the drawing...
Pencil and Ink.

Some of you may wonder where the lonely inhabitant of this island might be. The most obvious reply would be: inside the house. But the door seems to be open so... I often thought about many other possibilites. Use your imagination, and if you have an idea, I'd like to hear it.

I assumed we were seeing the island from the occupant's POV... wonder what that says about me. (For some reason I also assumed it was cliff on the other side of the house...)

Sorry, I don't understand. How could we see the island from the occupant's POV, if we are seeing the whole island?

Oh I just meant maybe he's on a boat or the mainland or something, gazing fondly back at his (or her?) place of residence. Don't mind me!

Oh ok, that's fine then. It's one possible reading, and I like it.
It's far from the feeling I had when I drew it, though, because I rather pictured the inhabitant as being inside the island in isolation (craggy rocks, only one path to the beach where there's no boat... hard to get away). But you opened my eyes to a new one: that the inhabitant finally takes chances and goes away from the safe and cozy isolation. Makes it less static, and much more exciting, as it pictures the beginning of change and adventure. Thanks!

maybe he's on the other side of the hill, waiting to watch the sun set.

True! the sunset must look beautiful from that spot! . Thanks for your reply!

By the way, I just realized one thing: this "look at this drawing. Where's the inhabitant of this island?" thing... it sounds like a psychologist's tool of the trade. I'm sure that we could guess quite a bit of information about a person, from the reply. I like this way of meeting fellow deviants. Let your imagination free, people! and keep telling me your guesses about this Crusoe's location...
