I don't think that's any sadder or more depressing than a child being beaten to death with a crowbar by the Joker, that's just what kind of happens with Jason Todd.

To be fair he was more of a teenager at the time and was kind of an asshole. People VOTED for him to get hit with a crowbar. No one wants to see that happen to a puppy.
