Heh I saw a bit of scanlation of the opening of the manga (Whjere Hameln plays beautiful music to attract birds and then tries to kill them with his violin ), and yes I saw the movie a few years ago. It was extremely funny

Just seemed odd to me the manga is funny and the anime is serious. Although I've heard the manga gets serious later into it?

Yes it did.... the anime for some reason has completely block out the humor in the manga. *oh yes, I remember that scene... kill the birds... Hamel is a jerk in some ways. Plus he also like to jump off the tall building and hurt himself...*

Well the anime was short and didn't have a big budget to begin with.. maybe thats what they wanted to focus on? I like dark stuff too though, so I like it.

The work which Anime is such different from the original in is rare.

I think that there is it if surely English version of Manga is the Internet or a bookstore and looks for it.
There is Serious. A comedy is important.
