Description Don't usually draw Sonic-related stuff, but I finally got around to renting Generations this week. It was great for the short amount of time it lasted and it got me wanting to paint one of the characters.

I'm pretty satisfied with it for now, but I regret not starting from a better sketch since I just painted this from a 10-minute scribble. I like the top-left portion the best (Robotnik, moon, & emerald), although the moonlight glistening on Rouge's
spandex came out nicely, too. ^-^

Any suggestions for improvement are welcome!

Suggestions on improvement? I'm afraid it looks to perfect!

It's such a unique picture of Rouge! The pose is so her, and so well executed! Lively and quite fluid! The coloring is just lovely! I love that oil pastel look!
You draw hands like a friggin' expert! Her fingers, her palm, the kiss mark, I'm envious!

And the moon is detailed to excellence!

I'd say stranger, this is one of the best Rouge pictures that I have seen in a long time!

Thanks for the glowing compliments! I asked for suggestions because,
as the artist, I can see all the "mistakes" right off the bat (pun intended).

You are most welcomed!

And as far as suggestions go, sorry I couldn't be of much help. It looks pretty great to me!
But of course, being artists, we are our own worst critique.

Thanks! I'm going to follow the advice of
and try for smoother tones on the next try. So far, it's
turning out nicely.

You've got the right idea--crisp contrasts between the lighting and shadows, something that beginners often fail to recognize. Your shading could be smoother, and I'm not too partial to the glow effect around the moon intended to convey a light source. Other than that, you've got a good grasp of the basics down. It's all practice from here

Thank you for mentioning the moon glow. I added it in and
then just forgot about changing it.

The shading, however, looks this way on purpose. This messy,
almost concept-art painting style cuts several days off my
production time. I see what you're saying, though, and
hopefully I'll figure out what works and what doesn't as I
use this style more.

Well, it's an aesthetic preference surely. As for your production hours, you'll gradually become more efficient as you practice. Soon it'll become a personal choice rather than a practical one how and what you paint. Good luck!
