Lovely sepia tone. Interesting contrast between grainy (ground) and smooth (textile) place .

Very nice piece of work. Definitely full of emotion and expression. It's hard to pin down exactly what emotions those are, but it pushes one towards introspection.
Great job.

Hi Basti,
this ist the greatest photo, which was ever taken from me. Fortunately from behind I like to remember our famous holidays and looking at this photo, brings me right away back to the sea. Thank you! You're a excellent photograph!

Very nice photo. I think the orange filter really adds a lot to this shot. The contrast is great. Good work.

Really great shot there ! .. but i think it would have been better with a " horizontal" sea line .. or maybe it's just me ( please don't hate me .... :S)
Tho amazin !

hmm...without the sealine: explain the title....I loke the (unsharp) sea in the background
and: I don't hate you. constructive critics are always welcome!

i like everything its really awesome, the only thing i dont like is the offset camera angle, i know why you did it, because shes right in the middle and you needed something to throw it off a bit to make it interesting, and it really works but it also hurts my eyes lol but maybe thats just me
π: 0 β©: 1
mcbastian In reply to Lilcochinito [2004-02-08 21:10:29 +0000 UTC]
I didn't care 'bout the offset angle. I just did this picture
I jumped around her position like travolta in one of his dancing movies (lol) and made some pics with different zoom's, arpertures...
this is the one I like most.
It wasn't a real shoting. Some friends of me (including her) were in france over new-year. this day we let some dragons fly on the beach, because we had strong wind. I made some pics of the beach and the woods lying around there. And then she sat down and I saw this and thought: "wah! awesome pose! hold it and gimme some seconds!"
then I made my pics.... no tripod, nothing. just me, my cam, strong wind and this picture in my head...pushing the button, hearing the motor transporting the film....did it!
just a pic like "veni-vidi-vici" got there, saw it, made it
no time for preparations. just me, my cam and the picture.
I like this kind of photography most. out of the hand. not hours of preparation. just having the right ideas at the right time.

hahaha i like that! my photo teacher back in highschool would love to hear that, he always told us to just go nuts and take pictures, and heck it shows style! i like ansel adams but that guy would drive me nuts, way to anal about getting particular shots he was... its really awesome!! i like it alot and thanks for replying it means alot, most of these guys who get a daily deviation are like too lazy to reply, so thanks!

im sure it does! good luck with that stuff as soon as i clean up the list of people im watching i'll probably add you because some of these people just put up tons of junk so im turning their names off temporarily...as well as getting into arguements with a few of them but...all that aside.. have a good one!

When I look at this, I get a feeling of serenity. The photo simply has that sort of air to it, probably due to the combination of the maritime setting, the pose (Doreen appears to be at rest here. ) , and the fact that it's in black and white. (I've always found pictures like that to be particularly appealing, nostalgic, and/or peaceful, you know? )
All in all, this is a great piece that deserves to be on my favorites list (because I do indeed want to look at this over and over again later ) .

thanks a lot!
like I described in a reply to a comment here, she wasn't posing. she sat down there to rest and watch the sea, not to be photographed.
in this time I made some shots of wood which was put on the beach by the sea (treibholz in german, don't know the english word).
And I saw this and had this pic in mind. luckily I had an Ilford XP2 in my cam (gives this sepia-tone if developped on color-paper by a normal lab)
so I went and made pics
and it turned out well, if I read the comments here correctly
