I just recently watched the 2014 Godzilla movie on Max and I would say it is better and a great improvement over the 1998 movie directed by Roland Emmerich(who also directed Stargate and Independence Day,which both are much better 90's action-adventure films than this trainwreck with this so-called Godzilla).

While the 1998 movie was really laughably bad,underwhelming, and corny at times since it had little-to-no respect to the source material,the director made fans angry by admitting that he hated Godzilla, and the Godzilla(AKA Zilla) in the movie was very different from the original Godzilla,it had some few moments of jokes and suspense(such as the "Wrong Floor" scene,Jene Reno and Hank Azaria were the best characters in the movie and great action scenes such as the taxi chase scene.),the 2014 movie was a amazing improvement over the film and not only it proved that Hollywood can make a Godzilla movie after all after the first one in 1998 was a failed disaster,it also kickstarted the MonsterVerse franchise and brought the giant kaiju monster to a whole new generation of fans. I really praise the special effects in the film to be spectacular here,since Godzilla's design in the movie looked really faithful to his iconic design,some of the acting is incredible here,including Bryan Cranston,Aaron Taylor-Johnson,Elizabeth Olsen,Sally Hawkins,and Ken Watanabe and not as 100% terrible compared to Matthew Broderick's lousy performance in the 1998 movie,some awesome moments such as Godzilla killing the female MUTO with his atomic breath,great direction by Gareth Edwards(who also directed 2016's Rogue One:A Star Wars Story),the fight scenes with Godzilla and the MUTO's are incredible,the MUTO's are great monster villians, and the kaiju and the MUTO's have really cool designs,the cinematography,production values,and tone was really ambitious and well-done,and the characters are all likable and good(and not as bland,stupid,and unlikable(outside of Jean Reno) as the ones in the 1998 movie were).

Since Ed from Ed,Edd,n' Eddy is a really big monster movie fan,here is a meme where he doesn't like the 1998 Godzilla movie due to having a different Godzilla that doesn't act or behave nothing like the original kaiju monster we all know and love,the acting was poor and weak,especially Matthew Broderick,most of the destruction was not only caused by Godzilla,but the U.S. military due to being too incompetent and impossibly bad at shooting at a monster and end up destroying buildings like the Crysler bulding instead,product placement such as Blockbuster,Taco Bell,KFC,and Pepsi,lack of grasp of the source material,the dialogue was laugably bad and crappy,the CGI in the movie was poorly done,and also doesn't help that most of the crew never seen the 1954 movie and the franchise,and because of that,Ed decides to prefer and likes the 2014 Godzilla movie better,because it's much more amazing,well-written,well-acted,breathtaking,and faithful to the original Godzilla we all know and love and proved that Hollywood can make a Godzilla movie,along with starting the MonsterVerse where Godzilla would face off against King Kong in the third movie.
