Description I thought of how popular he is after death and thought of this, its kinda like "i listened to "somebandsname" before they were cool" but different.

RIP Michael.

It's true, I remember listening to a selection of his hit songs A LOT before his tragic passing.

I mean, a year or two before his death, I discovered Michael Jackson's Thriller. Β I knew that he might have done some terrible things to children, but even if that was all true, that doesn't make his music any worse.

same here. I always say that about Maroon 5. Everyone I know seems to claim they are their biggest fan when they've heard two songs and I'm like, "Ummm...No you're not. I've been listening to them since I was 6 years old,b*tch."

I feel even worse, than usual.
Really, guys, I wish I could go in the street, where all the loyal MJ fans are and stand on my knees and say FORGIVE ME.
I want to say that I never dashed him, but still despised - because I hated the term "pop-music". I used to be a metal-head. Not long ago I came across one of his songs and felt like "Wow, it's a cool one!May be I shall listen to others one day"
Believe it or not, but I never knew a single song of him, only B&W. And never saw a PV.
And you will never believe, but I never watched Thriller. I did it two-three months ago)

I watch Michael Jackson's 'Black or White' video on Fox way back in 1991, but couldn't figure out whether he was a boy or a girl. But to be fair I was about 6. (still thought he was pretty regardless)

I listen to his music when I was five, but didn't became a fan until his death pass. What's a coincidence is that I was hearing Thriller one or two days before Michael's passing. I feel bad for not understanding about this part of Michael's life or that. But if it wasn't for him I wouldn't be here continuing my life to prepare on making the world a better place.

Pardon my rude rambling.

This is really true. It's like his "fans" and the media started to be kiss up to michael jackson, I just remember growing up my dad always told me "dont believe the media, there just full of it." My dad bought me the Bad album in 2001 and I loved it so much I played it everyday until my brother got annoyed. Then my parents bought the number ones videos on dvd, my dad would put it on if I was sad and make me listen to Don't stop till you get enough.

He always did have the biggest fanbase. Tons of people listened to his music before june 25th. Anyone thinking that they were special in any way just because they started listening to him before some other people did, should just get a grip. And ease it down with the undying urge for self-promotion. Emphasis on the "I" of course.

Just listen to his music, be grateful for it. Be happy that more people are "seeing the light". Be happy that MJ is becoming even more successful. That his legacy will live on through generations to come. Thats what he would've wanted.

If it was up to me I would like to live in a world where all the people are MJ fans in some way or another. It would surely be a better place. As long as they would let go of their vanity, and try to be humble whenever they can. Emphasizing that you are better for doing something that someone else didn't, is anything but. So please stop with this pointless competition.

It's a joke, calm down, i didn;t make it as a "omg im better than you because i listened before" i was doing it as a casual joke thing. Examples of "i liked anime before it was popular" stuff. I'm not emphasizing anything never mind being better nor was i even trying to start a "competition"

I think he became more popular after he died because people remembered listening to him and they remembered how much they liked it.
But me, I listened to the Jackson 5 a bit when I was younger... I stopped, though, because everyone my age made jokes about him and I didn't want to be the next person they picked on (I'm a young fan. I'm only 14 right now.) so I just stopped listening to him. After he died I remembered how much I liked those Jackson 5 songs so I started listening to them (and Michael alone, of course, and I prefer that now) again and I feel in a way that I missed out a little. Yeah, of course, people still crack jokes about him but I don't care anymore. I guess this stamp doesn't fully apply to me, but that really doesn't matter. As long as I'm a fan of MJ, I'm fine with that. ^^
(sorry for leaving a long comment. I hate doing that. )

Interesting, since I got into his music and became a fan the year before he passed away.
Like what everyone else is saying, I also noticed how after he died, many people all of a sudden loves him, or says they do.
But at the same time, I'm sure that there are some people who were never introduced to his music prior to his death and people who mocked him before and now deeply regret what they did.
But yeah...there are some people who just jumped on the bandwagon.

This is what I think. New or old fan, if you TRULY love him, you are a fan of MJ.

But ugh...a few months ago I was doodling a drawing of MJ in my notebook at school, and my new friend saw it and asked me, "Do you like Michael Jackson?"
And I replied, "Yeah! I love him."
You know what she said? "But he's a pervert."
I couldn't hide my anger. It comes to show you how so many people still misunderstand him and believe what the media tells us.

You know, people always say it's annoying for others to say this, but this stampo is how I really feel. I used to be embarassed to mention I liked MJ at school because you'd be bombarded by ignorant people, who even if I would've took them time to explain to them the false rumours, there was no changing. Now it's like I don't wanna say it because those same people who joked about him love him now. It's cool MJ is cemented into pop-culture forever and all, I mean I knew exactly this would happen when he died- but it's just...just..annoying, plain and simple!

I was born in the 80's so i grew up with his Music. One of his first songs I heard was "will you be there" from the free willy movie! i always thought it sounded so heavenly..

Then in the mid 90's all these rumors started and I was only a stupid high school kid who believed the media was always telling the truth and let me confused cause it just didn't fit him as a pedo. Later I did a skit using his Thriller song. Then few years later he died.. I was in such denile at first but then it hit me HARD for weeks. I truly believe He is resting at Peace because even after his death i can still feel his spirit in his work. He was one of a kind, there will NEVER be another MJ.

So THANK YOU for making this. Everyone was being such a Kiss ass when he died. But they just felt Guilty because they bashed him so bad. If you're a true fan of an artist, you'll stick to them through the good or bad! No matter what.

Oh, no. I know.
Its just not really necessary?
In my opinion, I don't think it matters when you have listened to him - before or after his passing.
The point is people listen to him.

My only problem is when they say they like only his big songs, but don't bother to listen to the rest.
I don't disagree or fight, its just my opinion.

I regret not being a fan before his passing. I think it was just that I didn't know many people who were passionate of his work. I was born in 1992 so I wasn't living in his greatest years, if not, some of his worst. By then people and the media wernt showing me his awesomness, just... horrible things. He was never on T.V or the paper, but when he was, it was usually lies against him or on his accusations...

I did laugh at MJ jokes, but I never thought he was a pedo. And now that I descovered him, I KNOW he's not a pedophile!!!! And I KNOW he's in peace.

And he was popular ever since he was in The Jackson 5, he was never UNpopular. His death just made him more popular than he was.

But I don't know why some people hate his new fans... isn't it good that he has more people that love him?

His songs were recognizable to me. When someone would refer/say Thriller, immediately I'd think of The Zombies and MJ in Thriller. When AAF released their cover of smooth criminal. I was so-so. It wasn't until the last 2 or 3 years ago that I actually started listening to MJ's music regularly. Although it was only Billie Jean,Beat It,Thriller, and Smooth Criminal. I had the chance to buy The Essential Michael Jackson CD at a latin music store, but it was over 30$ last October of 2008. Bought an iTouch and bought the Thriller song in April or May and I got the e-mail receipt to prove it After his death I got into more of his other songs(they never showed on TV recently) and my siblings each bought their own MJ albums. So, yeah I listened to MJ's music even though it was his most popular songs and it's been in the past few years especially in 2008 due to the 25th Anniversary of Thriller.
