Description
I didn't know if I would be posting this to dA, but with my schedule being what it is these days, I figured why not. A couple months back, an issue of the Superman main title was pulled for some controversy or another, and DC instead ran an inventory story by Kurt Busiek and Rick Leonardi. I say "inventory," but really it was an issue that ties heavily into the whole "Infinite Crisis" storyline of which I know little, and has since been rendered moot anyway. The story is basically: Superboy died (he's since gotten better, because "Comics, everybody!") and his dog misses him.I have a current project involving my own dog (A Dudley Lab) and since I was already in dog-sketching mode, decided this would be a good time to draw her as Krypto for my own amusement (since my fiancee has squashed my plans to name any future dogs "Krypto," I have to enjoy it however vicariously). It started as a sketch, grew into an excuse to draw the Cassie version of Wonder Girl, and was just a chance for me to work on different lighting for a change. I worked on this here and there over the course of the past two months and in between other things, and was really just a practice piece for a nerd who likes his dog a lot.
So while this was never really intended for dA display, the "Man of Steel" movie is currently filming about half an hour from where I live. This past weekend I decided to stalk the set and catch a glimpse of the Smallville set (what I did see? LOTS of destruction happening in this one, kids), and now I've got an all-things-Superman buzz going.
Created with PITT Pens, Adobe Photoshop, and a timeframe not exactly "faster than a speeding bullet."

What contoversy was that? Sorry, where I live they stopped to publish DC Comics regulary. Very nice artwork, by the way. Infinite Crisis was a great storyline.

I don't believe it was ever explicitly addressed, but the original solicitation for the issue had Superman teaming up with a character who was Muslim. More info here: [link]
Thanks for checking it out!

I friggin' LOVE your color palette on this! The composition is spot-on line work as we are well accustomed to seeing from you. But that whole color scheme drew me in from the thumbnail. Gorgeous color holds on the hair too!

Thanks Kojo. I was pretty happy with the hair, since "Blonde" seems to baffle me most of the time.

It was a beautiful piece & obviously struck a chord. I loved how many people identified it as occurring after Conner's death!

Thanks! And it seems weird that Man of Steel is shooting so close to me and I'm NOT there snooping around everyday. I would love to get on the actual set and look around. What I saw looked incredible.
