Description
In this tier list, I've chosen which language I think the anime and manga protagonists sounds better in (no disrespect to the sub elitists or the dub apologists). There's three rows: one where I like dub voice of the character, one where I like the sub voice better and one where I think both the seiyuu and the voice actor does a good job at voicing the character. And again, this is only my opinion.

Note: Dub apologists are those who always say dubs are better and don't have standards to tell if a dub is terrible or not.

Now how about we go through these rows? By that, I mean saying who the characters are, as well as their VAs.

DUB: Son Goku = Sean Schemmel - Edward Elric = Vic Mignogna - Allen Walker = Todd Haberkorn - Sebastian Michaelis = J. Michael Tatum - Kenshin Himura = Richard Cansino - Clare = Stephanie Young - Alucard = Crispin Freeman - Revy = Maryke Hendrikse - Guts = Marc Diraison - Maka Albarn = Laura Bailey - Inuyasha = Richard Ian Cox - Light Yagami = Brad Swaile - Klaus Von Reinherz = Phil Parsons - Asta = Dallas Reid

The characters in that row have been given good voice English voice actors to match up with their Japanese counterparts. That's what I see here. Some of them, such as Goku, Edward, Allen and Kenshin are voiced by women in the Japanese version. Still, the seiyuus voicing them are good, it's just that the English voice actors do a better job with these characters.

SUB: Monkey D. Luffy = Mayumi Tanaka - Gon Freecss = Megumi Han - Tanjiro Kamado = Natsuki Hanae - Eren Yeager = Yuki Kaji - Meliodas = Yuki Kaji - Yoh Asakura = Yuko Sato and Yoko Hikasa - Ryo Saeba = Akira Kamiya - Seiya = Masakazu Morita - Yuichiro Hyakuya = Miyu Irino - Toriko = Ryotaro Okiayu - Ken Kaneki = Natsuki Hanae - Kenshiro = Hiroshi Abe and Katsuyuki Konishi - Saitama = Makoto Furukawa

Here, I'm not trying to throw the English voice actors under the bus. But in my honest opinion, Luffy, Gon, Eren, Meliodas and Tanjiro have been miscast. The Japanese voices for these characters does a better job with their emotions. Yes, some may wanna say that I'm being unfair and all, but that's the honest truth. Their dub voices are just unfit for their characters.

BOTH: Naruto Uzumaki = Junko Takeuchi and Maile Flanagan - Ichigo Kurosaki = Masakazu Morita and Johnny Young Bosch - Yusuke Urameshi = Nozomu Sasaki and Justin Cook - Rin Okumura = Nobuhiko Okamoto and Bryce Papenbrook - Yuma Kuga = Tomu Muranaka and Cathy Weseluck - Gintoki Sakata = Tomokazu Sugita and Michael Dangerfield - Natsu Dragneel = Tetsuya Kakihara and Todd Haberkorn - Aladdin = Kaori Ishiwara and Erica Mendez - Izuku Midoriya = Daiki Yamashita and Justin Briner - Jotaro Kujo = Daisuke Ono and Matthew Mercer - Rias Gremory = Yoko Hikasa and Jamie Marchi - Shinra Kusakabe = Gakuto Kajiwara and Derrick Snow - Yuji Itadori = Junya Enoki and Adam McArthur - Sailor Moon = Kotono Mitsuishi and Stephanie Sheh

With this row, I will admit that I'm being sort of conflicted. But most of thse roles has given me a good vibe at both languages. That said, the dubs for Naruto, Bleach and Yu Yu Hakusho were among the first I came into contact with alongside Dragon Ball's. Needless to say, they have bee given good English and Japanese voice actors.
