That sounds like a lot of fun!
My grandpa does the "I'll be bahk" line a lot. He's sort of a fan of action movies since then he doesn't have to pay attention to what anyone's saying. That's his theory, anyway.

After some time it get's just a bit repetetive though...

Yeah. I know.
But grandpa's short term memory isn't so great, so he's able to watch the same movie over and over again without feeling repetitive.
Me, I'd probably go nuts.

oh, that would be great if it would be true for me too. I can watch most movies only once and then I remember most things - well, not everything - but sometimes it amazes me how much of the lines the people say I can memorize.

Hmm. ^_^ On the other hand, it can be nice to remember movies so you can talk about them with other people.
But it is incredible sometimes how much is remembered. It makes rewatching difficult. There are movies I haven't seen since I was a little kid and I think only now I'd be able to watch them again without feeling too much deja vu.

yes, but lately I found out that much to the annoyance of others I can speak for some time using only movie quotes.

That'd be a great party game, trying to carry on a conversation with only movie quotes.

Somebody made a independent movie about just that. Two people talking only in movie quotes. It was hilarious.

Oi. I bet. What was the name of it?

it was a german student movie, so I guess you wont have heard of it. I don't remember the name - unfortunately. but I remember that it was shot with a german actor, who at the time was pretty popular, because he just looked so charming and stuff, and I remember talking to the director, that she was very happy that the actor agreed doing basically a comedy version of himself, because he was reciting lines from ads he was in and thus, in a sense, making fun of himself.

I sometimes get the impression that actors fall into two camps. Those who take themselves waaay too seriously, and those who are more than happy to parody themselves.
Frankly, I have a lot of respect for those who are willing and even happy to make fun of themselves.

of course. It was great seeing that actor make fun of himself. I would never have figured him to be the type to do that.

It's pretty amazing who will do that. Seems a lot of the people who ended up on The Muppet Show loved the spot because they could be as silly and self-depreciating as they wanted.
And this one famous ballet dancer got to do tap dance.

Me too. It was my first exposure to Star Wars. (What a strange experience that was.)
Poor Kermit, just trying to get everyone to do what they're supposed to. @.@

The episode with the Star Wars guest stars? Yeah, that was a fun episode. I think it's on DVD somewhere.

oh, that means I have to buy it. hmmm, watching it on youtube or anything else would suffice really. I mean usually I don't watch the same movie more than once or twice, so I don't buy many DVDs.

Buy? Oh, I forgot. Most of the things we watch on DVD come from the library. Or we borrow from relatives, but mostly the library. We don't watch things multiple times much, either, and it saves storage space.
I don't know what your library is like, but I imagine they'd have a DVD collection and could probably pick the episode up on interlibrary loan.

oh, I guess germany is a bit backwater considering those library things. we have a rental store, but they only have those superblockbuster-mega-hits-sure-gona-make-money-DVDs

Tsk. That's too bad. Even the small rental store here in town has a better selection than that. That really stinks.

yeah, well. I think they should put up a sign saying - "ye who enters, let go of all hope (of finding the DVD you're looking for)" - but then I guess they should only put that sign up for me, because I remember being the strange kid that was asking for all these strange movies - Solaris (the Tarkovsky version), The Fountain, It's hard to be a god, oh the list can go on and on...

*nods solemnly* I totally understand. It took ages to find a place that had 'The Russians Are Coming'. I think Grandpa finally had to buy it from Amazon.
Then there's the original version of Carol Burnett's Once Upon a Mattress. The one where she played Princess Winifred, rather than the later remake where she played the queen. (She did a good job as the queen, but I'd really like to see the original movie.)

ah yes, tons of remakes in hollywood. I really like it when they make remakes of foreign movies and sell it as their own. And how creative they are usually...

Ugh.
Disney has been doing a lot of that with their own movies. As if finding the 1961 Parent Trap wasn't hard enough.
It really is a sign that Hollywood has run out of ideas.

McStout In reply to irish-brigid [2007-07-21 20:43:17 +0000 UTC]
yeah, maybe it's just all too much. Like every movie has to have bigger special effects and whatever-you-name-it. And then you run out of ideas. So, why not recycle old movies, they don't have the big effects. Maybe they should just add CGI to old 60s movies and be done with it. No need to complete re-shoot them

irish-brigid In reply to McStout [2007-07-22 02:59:16 +0000 UTC]
Definitely. I think they lost the whole 'brevity is the soul of wit' idea. Someone should try coming up with a story first, instead of throwing in a lot of special effects and trying to write a story around that.

that will be the ultimate movie then. every other film will be destroyed by the mere presence of it. everything before it will be rendered obsolete and puny in comparison. OMG. hollywood can't let that happen. it will make to many people look like the amateurs they are.

More power to independent studios! (A-Team worked as well as it did because the people shooting it insisted on working on location as far away from the brass as possible. And they may have conveniently forgotten to bring in phone lines.)

that's best. to be as far away from the money-having people as possible. just a phone-call every now and then, like "hi, i ran out of funds again, could you send some more. thanks."

I think the first set of Star Wars movies had a lot of calls like that during filming.
