The 'adventures within adventures' that is time travel. I loved it!

Thank you, sir. Tam learned a few lessons in this story that stay with her for the rest of her life.

I'd have to come back and look later; I'm currently getting ready to go up into the mountains for the day. My dad is a big fan of Star Trek.

Tamera is going to have trouble with sensor scans identifying her as her 'sister' for the rest of her life unless her biometrics are changed just enough for the scans to tell that there is a clear difference between her and the captain. It doesn't have to be very much. It only has to be different enough for scanners to detect it. I'm thinking that there must be something like a 'witness protection program' in the government that can make really good physicalΒ alterations. The less altering you need to do to a body to disguise it the harder it is to detect that an alteration has been made at all. Add a few veins and capillaries to the retina. Make a barely noticeable change to her finger prints. Make a few tiny changes to the acoustics of her throat to just slightly alter her voice prints and the scanner will will be satisfied that she's a different person from the captain. A tag could be added to her dna that would make it just different enough not to be a complete match with the captain's dna. If you have hundreds of billions of humans in the galaxy then some people will have the same fingerprints. I few will be almost perfect matches for each other. So a very close match to the captain won't be unexpected as a possibility. Besides, they're related. Now have the government officially record those differences with her identity information and the problem is solved. Add some kind of security classification to it and people won't want to ask questions.

When you read "Another Step Toward War", you'll see their Aunt T'Pel make much the same recommendations because as Janet Tamera Kirk, Tam's retina scans and fingerprints are already in Starfleet's database. Being Head of Starfleet Intelligence, T'Pel has access to things like that.

This was a fun book to read, just like the episode where they went back in time, and met Col Fellini the first time.
Then when Tam and Isis came back to the Enterprise, Jan's reaction was so funny!

It was Kind of fun re-visiting the argument between "Captain Kirk" and the Colonel and give it Jan's touch.
This is another story that really has a alternate end. The original draft had a scene where Tam and Isis come home- only to find out it's an alternate timeline created by Isis's presence. It just made things too complicated to keep so I threw the scene out.

That's kind of hard to picture, actually, but I can see how it would have gotten too complicated so fast.
