Description
I decided to give the in-verse Reactionaries some space with the flag of their unofficial leader: Australia, formally known as the Free Republic of Australia. A map version of this can be found here: [link] .The country's history (at least up to 1900) is in many ways identical to real life, though there was a larger Dutch element in its early days. Eventually a British Dominion, Australians prided themselves of their isolated frontier mindset, finding any outside interference as a danger to their way of life. Even as the Empire slowly succumbed to Collectivist subversion, the country took pains to keep itself "pure" from outside changes.
A principle emerged among scholars and politicians by the 1900s that emphasized a rigid, counteracting isolationism that would deter the emergent Reds (among other things). In many ways, this espoused practices that would be considered fascist in our world. Fearing a potential backlash from London, it declared "nominal allegiance" to the Crown in 1920; it was effectively independent.
By the time of the Terror, this concept had already become the unofficial stance of the state; only select "pure" Dutch and British refugees were welcomed. But it was the fall of British Maoriland (RL New Zealand) to a Red uprising in 1932 that solidified the principle into an ideology. Its borders were closed down almost entirely, allowing only select visitors from the non-Collectivist Nations. A massive censorship and isolationist propaganda campaign was soon enacted to keep the citizenry in line. Yet despite this, it maintained a foreign policy that advocated Reactionarism, which continues to this day. A slight attempt was made in 1991 to make reforms and improve relations with the RDNA and other countries. Within a few years, these were repealed.
As of 2014, Australia is generally stable and self-sufficient, which are what most outsiders only know of it. While it's wary of Collectivist activity, it is also strongly at odds with the other Free Nations, most notably the American Federation, Loyalist Canada, Gran Patagonia and the RDNA.
In Hetalia jargon, its avatar goes by Franklin Willard. British Maoriland's "loss" was particularly painful...

I have no real complaints about this one, good work. The only thing I can think of that could improve it would be to include some Dutch orange in there somewhere, but it's not necessary. :3

I see. I imagine the older flag to contain the Dutch element, but that changed when the Reactionaries came to power.

This is such an awesome flag. And i Love it so much. And i know why Aus would be upset with the loss of British Maoriland cause of the relations between them and he would have also lost his brother/sister.

It's actually his sister. And to make it more "painful," she's was killed by the Reds. As were most the Nations of Europe.

I was kinda hoping it was his sister, but put brother cause that's kinda the default in Hetalia. Crap, she died?!? Well, no wonder he went fully isolationist/etc, after that! Well, when i have a spare couple of hours im def reading your fics. Curse you RL for taking time i could be using to surf the internet!

Thanks.
And as for a minor spoiler, Australia wasn't the ONLY one who lost someone close. Take a look at what the RDNA herself had to deal with...

I guess they were just as racist towards non-whites as they were historically. What happened to the Aboriginal population ITL? Have they survived or have they been completely exterminated?

They were more forcibly absorbed in this timeline, though some "loyal" ones were given special privileges. It goes with the whole Reactionary mindset.
Can you guess why the fall of British Maoriland was particularly painful to these Australians (and the Nation himself)?

They lost a place to send all the undesirable non-whites to?

Not quite. There's the whole "we lost our brothers" angle going on. The ANZ relationship in this 'verse was becoming close.
