Description
Yeah, I know, it's not finished. But that's why I'm posting it. I'm losing interest and thought some of you would like to play Art Director for me and offer up suggestions. I'm very open to background ideas. The original sketch has been moved to my scraps.

i think it's amazing the way it is! :] but also curious to see what the rest of the MONSTER quetzal's body looks like along with the scenery & the lady partner. 5/5 in my books :]

Oh wowz o.o I would love to see this finished- Quetzalcoatl's head itself is simply amazing- you don't see this creature drawn enough. As for suggestions- I think the creature needs to be a bit more feathery, but that's all really. <3 this picture.

Mossy rocks. Or lichen-hung branches for the background.
I like its beginnings a LOT, though.

Backgrounds...mmm..Well the name of the piece itself suggests something to do with the Aztecs or Incas or South American Indians. So I'm thinking rainforests, temples, the sun, gold. I imagined the piestess in gold armour and I think your scrap sketch was going more along those lines, i.e. the breast plates.
The image as a whole almost implies that the snake type creature is nurturing the priestess, or perhaps the child. Like in a giant nest of sorts. Perhaps cliffs in the background with other nests? mmmmm....lol, Im just saying what comes to mind and hope it will spark something off in your mind.
Perhaps one could see parts of the snake creature in the background, coiled up and all scaly and whatnot? Everyone (previous comments) seems to be calling this a dragon while it is in fact a snake type creature right? Perhaps more could be done to emphasize exactly that.
I dont think a very detailed background would work very well with this painting though because there will be so much going on in the foreground, the multicouloured feathers, the priestess and child. Maybe that is the problem?
I also would like to point out one thing that seems odd to me. The womans' head, it just seems too far over to the right to me. However the shoulders and arms still need to be painted and that may be what is confusing my eyes. However it does seem that when I line up the centre of her chest with her neck it just seems off?
I hope I could help in some way. It would be a shame for this work not to be finished.Good luck!

Beautiful dragon--facial perspective great, and yes, eyedetails good.
I agree with who said the spear looks out of place...
She could use a little deeper shading on her body, maybe like cast shadows? To help define the 3D form more and add more contrast. I also think using a complimentary color on her skin (if it's orange/red, something like blue/green) would work well, rather than adding black or brown--her abs, for example, look muddy, but putting a pinch of color in there could make her feel more vibrant.
Great job with the craftsmanship.

HOLY F*CKING SHIT! Now THATS a BEAST!
The people are great and I particularly like how you shaded the woman, but damn, Quetzal!
I really like how the beak is tilted more upwards; it gives it a very massive feeling and the eyes just top it off.
GREAT JOB!

well: obviously the details on the face of the creature are amazing!
-- some less obvious things i really like are how the feathers tie the whole peice together. i'd love to see this finished.
--the baby, too, is a nice touch, perhaps i know nothing about *why* it's there, but i like it nonetheless.
to be honest i feel foolish trying to point you in any direction, it seems like it just needs to be finished! i can't wait
one thing:
is it just me, or is it more explicit *with* the feathers covering her chest? (or should i not comment on that.) anyway, it doesn't really matter in the end. after all, there's a feather theme for the whole peice anyway
... yeah do finish it ^_^

Bloody awesome so far! I'd beg for a bigger canvas to include more of the woman, but that's just me being greedy, I suppose.
The only suggestion I can make is to just state what you already know: to make sure her headdress doesn't blend into the creature's face. Both are very detail heavy.
I can't wait to see this finished. It's worth being excited about!

wow this is going to look awesome when it is finished. I think a cool ancient temple in the mountains or forest for a background would look cool.

This looks really neat the way it is, personally. If you keep working on it, though, I'd recommend you leave the woman's face pale; it's a really unexpected and neat contrast.

Quetzal's head and colors are really superb! I have to say I like the balance you had with the crystal ball in her hand...and that spear seems to "split" her at the wrong points (understanding of course that it's behind her, held by the now open hand?)...
I can't say anthing worthy regarding the colors (your painting skills are incredible)...but a jungle background might compliment the piece...and add to the Aztec feel there as well.
okay...there's my unqualified opinion - overall I'm in awe....great work!

Personally, I kind of like the unfinished look to it.
The details on the creature's face, and especially eyes, are really beautiful.
