Description Possibly my favorite game ever.  Being naive to sandbox games at the time, I thought you played the whole game in the vault.  So when Vault 101 opened for the first time, I was stunned.  I didn't know it at the time but the world was massive and I could go anywhere!  You only get that kind of feeling a time or two in your life while playing games. Skyrim, GTA,....doesn't matter.  While they are great games, for me I learned the magic trick on Fallout 3, and no other world was going to rock my socks like that one again.  So that's what I was trying to capture here.  That sense of wonder when you get out of the vault and having no idea JUST WHAT KIND of HUGE quest you are about to undertake.   What's your favorite game? What game really gave you that moment?

Oh that is SO good to hear.  Fallout 3 is a tremendous game, though a little dated now.  Thanks for commenting!

I do love Fallout 3.  As you say, possibly my most favorite game ever, at least in the RPG genre.  I still occasionally replay it.  And my favorite quest is still the raid on the Super Duper Mart for Moira.

I'm a big MMO* fan these days, and I manage to find one of those, "whoa" moments in most of them.  In WoW, it was pretty much an ongoing thing, since I started playing just a few weeks after launch.  But the real kicker was when BC released and I first hit the Outlands...and got my butt kicked by even normal mobs- not to mention the first time I looked out across Hellfire Peninsula and saw the fel reaver stalking across the landscape O_o.  Talk about a "We're not in Kansas anymore" moment.  In SWtOR, it was when I first got my starship and started doing the starship quests.  More recently in GW2 it was when I got to Lion's Arch and realized there were still ten entire zones I had yet to set foot in (and there's several zones I still haven't fully explored).

As silly as it sounds, it also happened in Minecraft, the first time I found a HUGE cavern deep underground...after exploring that particular cave complex for a few hours!  Those cave complexes still amaze me.

Man, I wish I had more time to game these days!  I don't know either GW2 or BC, but I recognize the others.  I'm glad you're still getting the 'Whoa' factor from them.  For me Fallout was the one and afterwards I pretty much bought a new game and thought to myself: "Okay, how big is the world going to be this time?"  Doesn't mean those games aren't good, they are, but it was something I kinda came to expect.

Oh yeah. I love big, open worlds.

I would like to try Skyrim, but I refuse to buy anything else from Besthesda until they release Fallout 4. I'm boycotting them!

Really?!  I'm kinda 'out of the loop' on video games these days.  Why the boycott? What did they do?

Only totally ignored Fallout fans for the last five years and pushed Skyrim and Wolfenstein and Dishonored and everything else *but* Fallout in that time.

Not buying anything from them until they release Fallout 4 (which I would LOVE to be an MMO but that is probably a long shot)

Yeah, I wouldn't hold my breath for an MMO... but ya never know!  We can always hope!

At this point I'll be happy if they do *anything* Fallout.

I dunno. I give them a little more slack than that.  Skyrim and the like were wonderful offerings, and sometimes the BEST thing you can do in that industry is let something cool off a bit.  For example, as an artist I probably wouldn't be very happy if someone told me I could ONLY draw Chun-Li fan art. I love Chunners and drawing her is almost ALWAYS fun, but I want to explore different things too.  That's just how I see it though.  Losing the Lead Concept artist who created the amazing world of Fallout 3 and Skyrim , to, I believe it was cancer. That was probably quite a serious blow for the studio as well.  Any Fallout or new Elder Scrolls that comes out now will not feel the same, because of such a loss. I think Bethesda knows that whatever Fallout they develop is going to be missing that 'special something' and are essentially building a new world from the ground up.  Takes time.  That's just my personal opinion on it though.
