No, the character design of Button Mash was not an OC, as Button Mash appeared in "Hearts and Hooves Day". The series Button Mash also starred Sweetie Belle, and she is also property of Hasbro.
Jan only has legal rights to Button's Mom, as she is the only OC in the series at this time.
Technically, it is within Hasbro's rights to force him to stop, but still a terrible PR move on their part. Especially since Button Mash had literally no character aside from being a video gamer and a blank flank.

Copyright is miserable wreck. The Brony fandom alone would never be able to change something so ingrained in our governmental system, despite our seemingly vast influence.

Great drawing, that sums up my feelings. buttons Mash may belong to hasbro but Jan gave him a voice. I have not watched the show sense it happened. Even if hasbro does bring buttons mash onto the show it is not theirs. Jan gave him a soul. What I don't understand is why now Hasbro use to like the fan art and video's. I don't care the show to me is dead. It died when buttons did.

It has to do with US copyright law. If you let one person use your copyright a certain way, other people can claim that it's okay to also use it that way, plus a bit further. Then others take it further and further and eventually you can actually lose the copyright on something if enough people dilute it.
Though copyright used to be "28 years" and now it's "Life of whoever created it, plus seventy years" which has gotten extended every 20 years like clockwork to ensure that nothing Disney will ever fall into public domain.

the animation may be over. But the character has long since gained a fandom. Comics will still be made, fanart and fanfiction. It's not that easy to get rid of button mash.

yeah but at this point is is just Hasbro stealing someone elses work. I had to stop watching the show. Even if they do bring buttons on the show it is not going to be the same person voicing him. I hate Hasbro.
